Looking for a few good….cache hiders.
The proposed day for the Picnic cache hiding is Saturday July 29. We are looking at making this an all day affair, thereby maximizing our number of hides, and getting it all done in one day.
Anyone who is interested in invited to come on out to help! Here’s your chance to be as creative and sneaky as you would like!
More info to be posted as it becomes available.
Please post if you are interested in helping out!

07/09/2006 at 7:15 pm #1763363At this time, my schedule looks pretty open.
I should be there for at least part of the day. Maybe I can recycle some of the sneakyness I put out at Bong. 😈
07/09/2006 at 8:15 pm #1763364At the moment the schedule is open, but not sure if we would be up north that weekend. If not.. I’ll be happy to come and be sneaky.. I mean hide some caches. 😉 I’ll let ya know, for sure, as the date draws closer.
07/10/2006 at 12:17 am #1763365I will be there. I have one ready to go.
07/10/2006 at 10:43 am #1763366Hiding day is always fun. I’m in.
07/10/2006 at 3:18 pm #1763367I might be able to help. Will let you know for sure when you got more information posted on it.
07/10/2006 at 5:21 pm #1763368I think I have something going on that day, but for the life of me I can’t remember what! If I find that I have the day free I would love to help hide some caches. Are the containers provided and do we need to bring swag?

Containers are provided (once I find out who has them from the campout) unless you have a “Special” cache container that you would like to hide for the event.
No swag needed, we will also be providing stampers (once I find out who has them from the campout too!) to be used to mark your cache booklet.
Other information at this time:
I’m thinking of starting cache hiding at 9am at the Nordic trails area (actual spot & coordinates to be determined, but probably very close to the picnic coordinates, as that’s part of the picnic area.Cache hiding will go on all day until we’re done. So if you can’t make it at 9am (that IS pretty early!) come whenever, and we’ll put you to work!
Perhaps we’ll take a little break around noontime for nourishment (any ideas?)
Any other questions?

07/11/2006 at 2:38 am #1763370I’d love to help. I’ve marked my calendar and unless something drastic comes up, I’ll be there. 😛
07/22/2006 at 2:40 am #1763371WOW I’d love to help, but it’s tha same day as the company PiNic. Man, so sorry I can’t be a part of the hide! We’ll be at the picnic at least.
07/23/2006 at 4:51 pm #1763372Thanks to everyone who has volunteered!
Here’s an update for all you hiders:
We’ll meet at the event location N 42 49.299 W088 36.039. The shelter may or may not be available at that time, so we may use a picnic table as base of operations. Just look for me and a big container of caches!
We will start at 9am, but you may come at any time. I’m planning on breaking the hiders up along the various trails. Hide as many as you would like. Containers and stampers will be provided.
Make sure you double check your coordinates so we can be as accurate as possible. Remember that these are well used trails — if your hide may be a little more obvious, perhaps you can just get coordinates, and hide it right before the picnic, so as to prevent muggles from removing it.
Also note the difficulty and terrain ratings for your hide. Oh, and a name for the hide!
If you have a container that you would like to hide — bring it along! No trade items are needed, unless you would like to provide any Take Only goodies. These are set up so that the seekers only need to bring along their cache booklets and get a stamp.
There are lots of trails that we can use in two hiking areas. One section allows bikes (John Muir) — feel free to bring them along. Biking is not allowed on the Nordic trails. Also of note is that the John Muir trails are very well used. You may have to be stealthy when hiding, or you can certainly introduce folks to geocaching too!
Bring along FRS/GMRS radios if you have them. There should be no problem except perhaps at the most extreme trail ends. You may also wish to bring along your cell phones too. You may call in cache information on the trail this way, or you can wait until you return.
Around noon we will take a break for lunch. Lunch will be on your own, but we can all gather near “base” for camaraderie, if you like. Following this we will continue with the cache hiding, as needed.
We will do this rain or shine. In case of rain, and if we are outside, if anyone has a shelter that we can use it would be much appreciated.
I believe that’s all — feel free to post any questions.

07/24/2006 at 4:35 pm #1763373I have reserved the Nordic Pines shelter (same one we are using for the Geo-Picnic itself) for this Saturday, July 29th. So we’ll have a dry and shady base of operations with electricity instead of trying to run the thing out of Becky’s car. 🙂
They will have the shelter open for us before 9am, and I told the park officials we’ll be out of there around 5. Like we did for the Peninsula hiding day, someone will be “manning” the shelter all day… so stop by whenever you can (even to just chat with the other cachers who show up).
Please bring your creative cache hiding ideas and unique containers!
07/24/2006 at 5:13 pm #1763374Please be aware that John Muir is a very heavily traveled bike route and the bikers are not used to seeing hikers on the trails so be careful! I would recommend against hiding a lot in this area. Honestly, I’m a mountain biker and know how these shared trails can get ugly in a hurry. I’d hate to see hikers or bikers get hurt…
Also I would point out that the John Muir trail is not a typical ride slow and casual kind of trail. The riders there are serious and so are the hills on the route.
07/24/2006 at 5:36 pm #1763375Thanks for reserving the shelter Jeremy! It would have been a little cramped in my car.
As to the John Muir trails — yeah, I know they are pretty heavily travelled by bikes. This is something I have been thinking about for quite a while. I guess I leave this up to the decisions of cache hiders & seekers. We can all discuss this on cache hiding day as well. I’ve been there when it’s been insane, and other times it’s pretty quiet.
Once at the picnic, I’d like to limit the amount of driving around that cachers have to do. There are lots of permanent caches hidden in the Southern Kettle Moraine too (some within just a couple miles of the event!)
We might also be able to use some nearby areas too. I’m thinking on it!

07/26/2006 at 6:12 pm #1763376If anyone is interested, we can use the grill.
If so, post and I will pick up a bag of charcoal.
