Can any tell me what the status of Three Bad Ribs “GC112D”will be?? I just received an email from a friend who attend the Rib Mountain event. He heard that it my be pulled in the next two weeks. I assume he is referencing the DNR policies. Does any one have any input in to this? I was planning on taking trip up to there to do this one.

Well i can’t help you about the status of the cache, but if you want to do it this weekend, I’m planning on going Saturday, (I’m camping in Rib Mountain for the weekend) If you would like to go with me your more than welcome too!

I was contacted by Bill Bursaw, the property manager for Rib Mountain State Park as soon as the DNR announced their policy.

He wanted the cache owner to fill out the geocache notification form. Since then I have been trying to reach the owners without any luck.

Some info coming back to me from the recent event there this past weekend indicates that their might be a new State Natural Area, which would likely spell bad news for this cache.

So…. offically, there is no news regarding this cache (yet).

is it possible for someone to adopt this cache, and fill out the forms, to keep it going? if you don’t get a response back from the owners?

I wish I could do it this weekend, but I don’t think I am going to be able to. Won’t know until later this week though.

As we began setting up for the event in the morning I was approached by Mr. Bursaw as he was looking for someone from “geocaching” to talk to. He explained that he is not against geocaching but wants to know where the caches on Rib are placed. We walked over to this car and he further explained that last year they created a new master plan for the park that included blocking out a large portion as a State Natural Area. He said that if any of the caches were inside this new area he would like them moved to outside the area. Looking at his map I believe two of the three stages will be affected. The remaining stage is inside a large gray area listed as rental. I don’t know if that will be of concern to him or not.

He asked if we could get coords for him which my son did. I have sent them to Brian so the WGA can get back to Mr. Bursaw. If you want to do the Three Bad Ribs as they have been you should do them soon. From the information I looked at, I suspect at least two of the stages will have to be relocated.

As to having the cache adopted the Wausau area has had a batch of new geocachers recently and it should be no problem to get someone to adopt it if it comes to that. One Paddle Short might even consider it.

One of the rangers also asked us about the 4 letterboxes on Rib Mountain. We did give him the web address and tried getting the coords for him. I think One Paddle Shorts daughter did get the coords for one. We were only able to find 2 of the 4 since some of the trails have been changed and some of the clues missing. One of the letterbox owners has e-mailed us and will be checking on that one. Still have not heard back from the other.
