    Hi, everyone:

    Mary Thompson here. Newbie. 😀

Just wanted to announce that I am part of an environmental group in Janesville (Rock County) called the Janesville Shade Tree Advisory Committee. On Oct. 14 we are putting on an event called ArborFest, a Celebration of Janesville’s Trees. We promote and care for the urban forest. I am media chair for the event and have contacted a couple geocachers asking if anyone would like to have a Wisconsin Geocachers information booth (free 10×10) at the event.

I have been corresponding with board member Becky Waldmann (Greyhounder) who has been a very warm and positive presence and very enthusiastic and helpful. She is circulating word of the event, and I thought I’d do the same here since this is an announcements venue.

The event will be held in Palmer Park in Janesville from 10 to 4. Ground crew will be there at 7 am for setup. Gary is the setup crew chief – kinda looks like a teddy bear – LOL. So, if some of you do decide to get together to do this, just look for the teddy bear with glasses and a pistachio green t-shirt that says JSTAC on it and he’ll tell you where to set up.

If you would like to know more about JSTAC or ArborFest please visit our website at http://www.jstac.org/. On the home page is a link to the location for this year’s ArborFest.

This is a family friendly event, and our focus is on education and fun. We will have seminars on tree care, booths with vendors and exhibitors, interactive games for kids, food, music. There are LOTS of environmental groups exhibiting this year – from birders to Ice Age Trail folks. Should be lots of fun, particularly for people like Geocachers who love the outdoors. Greyhounder even suggested it might be fun to have a JSTAC geocache planted that day as an exhibit for those interested in learning geocaching. I think it would be great. There are woods, hills, streams, and lots of good hidey holes in the area that would be GREAT for planting a cache and for promoting the sport.

Anyway. That’s my spiel. If there is anyone out there who would like to man (or woman) the booth, you can always reach me here. We’d be delighted to promote this great sport!
