Has anyone had this problem? My Magellan Gold just flipped out and required me to reinitialize before it would operate again. Of course I lost ALL the data stored on it. Luckily I had finished my multi and was NOT in the middle of it when this happened. I checked the Magellan pages and didn’t really find this addressed. I’m running their latest firmware 5.4. And don’t tell me it’s time to buy an new unit (or a garmin)! Thanks for any help. Linda

I have a Magellan also, but have had no problems. A co-worker came in this morning and said his Magellan is stuck in a loop. Just as it is acquiring signals it kicks back to the initial screen asking those pesky questions it asks when you first turn it on.

He’s going to tyr hooking into his PC and seeing if he can get the initial downlaods again to see if it solves the issue.

Technology…..it’s great when it works!! 😆

Yes, I’ve had my Meridian Gold flip out too! I was up in OshKosh one time and it turned off on me. I turned it back on and it was like it was fresh out of the box and I had to reinitialize it. ALL my waypoints were gone. Needless to say my caching day ended at that point and decided to go shopping!

I think it was an electrical charge that “shorted” it out and caused it.

I had two meridian golds in the past, one of them suddenly shut down one day and needed to re-initialize…. deleting all my waypoints. I also had an explorist 200 that would randomly do this. I was very near a microwave tower when this happened on the gold, and I was using the projection function, not sure if either of these had something to do with the issue.

Luckily I had a pocket pc with me at the time(also my other meridian gold) so my caching day wasn’t over. I got rid of all my magellan gps receivers not long after that….. I think it was after the day that all my magellans were putting us 200ft+ off on a cache, and took more than 5minutes to update and let us know they were wrong(5minutes to long in mosquito country).

Good luck, but I think it’s something your going to have to live with.

I believe this is a feature provided on most products produced in France. (Ever own a Renault? Similar behavior!)

Well, I’m not feeling lonely anymore, but still can’t solve this thing. I sent an email to magellan, and no one has even acknowledged it, other than the auto reply bot. Grrrrrrrr.

Call Magellan Customer Service. There is a sequence of buttons to push that will make it do a hard re-boot.

The number is 866.737.8604 or 800.707.9971

thanks for the information. I’ll try them next. It’s functional now, but I’m am worried that I will be “in the field” and lose my data again. Linda

there is a yahoo group dedicated to the Meridian series of GPSr units, and in their FAQ are many of those ‘magic’ key combos.

    try this in the future:
