I’m posting this because there is talk on another thread of the WGA site about a possible 2007 Wisconsin Geocoin. This seems to be a better place to have the discussion.
Please post your thoughts and concerns about a possible new coin here. I hope to get the support of the WGA and it’s BOD. The coin is not my idea, but I support it fully.
Also feel free to post your ideas on what the new coin should look and feel like, and also what you would expect to pay, and be willing to pay.

11/07/2006 at 8:50 pm #1766799I know if here was a 2007 coin made I would want at least 3 or 4 of them.
11/07/2006 at 9:16 pm #1766800I would certainly support a Wisconsin Geocoin. Perhaps a heavily wooded forest with cheese logs. 😆 I would like to order 3 or 4 …if the Better Half doesn’t know about it ..errr I mean care. 🙂
11/07/2006 at 10:37 pm #1766801With the smaller size cache containers being more common now, maybe we should consider making a micro size coin. Could use a smaller version of the WI side of the 2006 coin and something simple on the other side.
11/07/2006 at 11:30 pm #1766802As a BOD, I’m in favor of a 2007 coin.
We would need another great design submitted. I think we learned a lot from the process last time. Lots of do’s and don’ts. I know it was a HUGE amnount of work for our Treasurer, “Tie”.

11/07/2006 at 11:46 pm #1766803What did the last coin look like? What is the number of characters you can have? Was thinking, (on front inside an outline of ammo can or film canister) VA JVFPBAFVA BOFRFFVBA VF N 10 YRGGRE JBEQ (on back side inside outline of state of WI with) TRBPNPUVAT (inside). I just got a World Traveler 2006 Nickel geocoin at geoswag that I’m releasing for $6.47. I’m not a collector, so I would release whatever ones I bought.
11/08/2006 at 2:28 am #1766804I’m hoping for an elaoborate design. Something really nice that everyone, not just Wisconsinites would want to collect, trade and enjoy. Something like the 06 Compass Rose would be awesome!!! But of course it would have to be about Wisconsin.
11/08/2006 at 3:29 am #1766805I’d like to see a micro coin with a deer tick on it — just goes along so nicely with our deer coin.

11/08/2006 at 4:09 am #1766806I think the idea of a micro coin should also be considered.
11/08/2006 at 2:41 pm #1766807A deer tick is not bad, but I’m thinking we should have a coin with the state bird – The Mosquito!
11/08/2006 at 3:06 pm #1766808I’d agree with the idea of a bit more flash on a new coin. Production values have really continued to improve and some really attractive coins are being made. If we come up with an ambitious idea, most of the coin firms have in-house designers who could help us polish things up a bit. Another Compass Rose would be a feat. The Campout coin was a nice one, and with some fills and such, we could have a stunner.
I like the idea of a micro, but maybe both could be done? Our neighbors in Michigan have done coins seasonally, so why not both in ’07?
I don’t think limiting the run is a bad thing. If we produce another really nice coin in smaller numbers, I’d be buying several, many with the intent to trade and a couple to travel. If we produce as many as people are looking for, I’ll only buy a couple.
We’ll see a lot of different philosophies on this. Should be interesting.
11/08/2006 at 11:21 pm #1766809I think two seasonal coins would be neat.
Like Spring on one side showing flowers by a stream and Summer on the other showing a fish jumping out of the water to grab a fly.
Then another coin with Fall on one side showing the changing leaves on a rolling hilside and winter on the other showing snowmobiling, skiing or a frozen waterfall.
This state has so much to offer it could be difficult to decide on a theme / design.11/09/2006 at 5:02 pm #1766810@I M W/U wrote:

11/09/2006 at 5:10 pm #1766811At a recent event, I saw a set of four geocoins which were shaped like puzzle pieces. They were four different colors and were designed to fit together if you had the whole set.
While I wouldn’t want to copy the puzzle piece idea, I think something similar would be fun:
Square coins, one for each season. One side would have a picture representative of that season in Wisconsin, the other side would have a quarter of a larger picture. Once all four are released (in four batches throughout the year) if you collected them all and put them together, you’d have a four-pane picture on one side, or flip them over to see the big picture.

So the Winter coin would just be painted solid white? 😆
