Just wanted to let folks know, discussion has begun again for the second annual chippewa valley geocaching event. Not saying too much yet, but there will be double the caches, a kick off gathering and an end gathering. Helping/hiding crew is going to start being assembled soon. More to come, but keep your eyes peeled.
In the meantime, if you participated last year, and have feedback, drop me an “e”.

12/14/2006 at 12:51 am #1767582Sweet maybe I’ll make the trip this year…then head to the St. Germain area too if they end up holding an event as well…..it’s shaping up to be a busy summer. 😛
12/14/2006 at 4:23 am #1767583Any chance they will list the caches on gc.com this time?
12/14/2006 at 7:42 pm #1767584Yes. Discussion is happening to have hopefully half of them listed. Unfortunately (or fortunately), the chippewa valley is cache dense so no way to get another 80 in here, but the goal is to have about half count toward numbers.
12/14/2006 at 10:04 pm #1767585Wholly cow!!!!! That many caches?!?!?! It took me three or four trips last time to get them all. (OK, that was my fault… the first trip, I forgot to load the maps into my GPSr) I hope the weather is a bit better this time. Every time I went up it was either torrential downpours or in the high 90s. Not that I’m complaining… I’ll cache in any weather, it’s just that the tick spray doesn’t last as long in that kind of weather and I really, really, really hate ticks with a passion! I ended up with six ticks from the Devil’s Punchbowl. EWWWWWW!!!!!!!
12/15/2006 at 2:03 am #1767586woot woot! It will be great to have more of them as permanents.
I used to hate ticks too until I lived in the country outside of EC. Then I just got really, really used to them. I once picked 75 off my dog. (All together now: Eeeewwwwww)
12/15/2006 at 4:53 am #1767587What if they made use of some of the more scenic traditional caches already in place? I’m sure most of the owners would welcome the opportunity. After all, why place a temporary right next to an existing cache? Any punches/stamps/coupons/etc. could be put into any cache sized small or bigger. Just a thought.
12/16/2006 at 2:41 am #1767588I agree with Team DEEJay (sorry if I spelled it wrong!) and where is Rochester,wi?
12/16/2006 at 3:02 am #1767589That is part of the plan. Understand last year was an experiment. We also had 2 months to set it up, and for a trial run, didn’t do too bad. This year, we learned from the experiment. We are going to be using some of the more beautiful caches/locations that are out there, setting out new ones in other locations, and setting out temps as well. This way, there is something for everyone; out of towners can do em all, locals can revisit some, do some new ones, bag some temps, but still have fun, regardless… Also going to set up at least one new night cache for this too. Stay tuned.
12/16/2006 at 3:07 am #1767590Now if you could move the event about 193 miles to the Southeast at a bering of 129 degrees….Looks like I may have to make a weekend out of it. I’ll be looking for somewhere to camp so I’m hoping someone can recommend a place when the time gets closer.

Rochester is 5 miles NE of Burlington, about 25 miles SW of Milwaukee. Just over 1000 people.
12/17/2006 at 5:14 pm #1767592Is this the event that was held last year at Carson Park in Eau Claire (I think it was Zuma’s B-Day party)…we were at THAT event. Sure would be interested in ANY events around the Eau Claire area.
jracepilot and crew
(The Bloomer Contingent)12/17/2006 at 8:13 pm #1767593Nope, wrong event. This one had a pass book that had to be punched at each cache. When you were done with as many caches as you wanted, you turned in the pass book and received a Chippewa Valley coin and were entered into a drawing to win cool prizes. There were a GPSr, mountain bike and I think a hotel package. Zuma’s event was held at the same park where one of the temps for this event was.
12/18/2006 at 4:38 am #1767594HI jracepilot,
The event Kent is talking about here is the 6 week geocaching event in the Chippewa Valley. Here is the web site to last year’s event, to give ya an idea of what it is all about:

You will definately want to keep tuned in for more details, and they will be forthcoming, towards spring.
