I thought I would share the great deal I found on newegg.com for a 1gb kingston micro SD card. I picked up a couple for $13.99 a piece, they work great in my phone and 60cx.

I should also note this comes with an SD card adapter so this card will not only work with transflash/microSD card devices, but regular SD card devices too.

If you are looking to use this card in a Garmin x series GPS, there is a limitation you should be aware of (with the GPS, not this particular card). Most people are adding these cards to add more map capacity to their GPS. The current firmware limits you to loading 2030 map segments, regardless of how much memory they occupy. If you use the TOPO US maps, like I do, this is only about 500 MB (it depends on exactly which segments you select, but they are similar in size). The entire US was around 6000 segments, and about 1.5G. The rest of the memory can be used for track, routes, and POIs, but thats about it. (You cannot use it for waypoints, that also has a fixed number of 1000.)

The point of this is that you should check on Mapsource with your map package to see how much memory the 2030 map segments will occupy. (I don’t have access to City Navigator or City Select). If is under 512M and you only want more memory for TOPO maps, a 512M microSD card will do what you need at a lower price. When I talked to Garmin about this limit, they said there were no plans at this time to lift this limitation in the firmware.

The good news is that 2030 segments will cover all the eastern US down to just above the Georgia-Florida border, so I’m not likely to be wandering that far without planning enough to change the maps. That said, my 2G card is sitting 75% unused. Oh well.

The 2025 map segment limit really only effects garmins topo software(topo uses very small map segments), if your using city navigator or city select you can max out the card. I only have access to city select at the moment, the whole US is 1059map segments & 1,645mb.

If you buy city navigator NT the whole US will fit on a 1gb card.

I see the kingston 1gb card is now out of stock, guess I got lucky when I ordered a second one earlier. newegg is pretty good at getting things back in stock, I’m sure in a few days they will have more.

EDIT: I just checked again and they are now listed as in stock

Just a word of caution for any Lowrance users out there. There has been issues with using anything other Sandisk SD cards with some Lowrance units. I now for sure that there has been issues with the iFinder series. I have never tried anything other then a Sandisk so I can’t give firsthand info. The people that have tried other cards seem to be Knowledgeable and I have no reason to believe they are incorrect in their experiences. There has been some discussions with Lowrance and they seem to backup this info. No direct reason why, there just seems to be some sort of compatibility issue. This doesn’t make sense to me however it seems to be a real issue.

I have a Lowrance PHd and utilize a 1gb card that is made by some off brand company. I had that card in the unit for over a year with zero problems.

What I do know is you HAVE to use their proprietary card reader to make the maps.

I have run into problems with 1 memory card that I wanted to use for my lowrance Ifinder. I couldn’t get it to work with the gps, but it worked with my camera. Finally, I noticed that the metalic pieces (connectors) were not flush with the end of the memory card, but all the other cards I had were flush. I think that may have been the problem. Maybe the connectors in the gps are a little bit off, which could cause the problem.
