I’m looking for some recommendations on accounting software.

I’ve seen several different products out there, but I’ve never tried or seen them use first hand. The software would be used for a tax-exempt corporation for finance tracking of income, expenditures, creating monthly and yearly reports. It needs to be simple to use for someone with limited computer knowledge (not me 🙂 ).

If you have any recommendations, please let me know.

I use Microsoft Money 2004 for our Town business. (Part Time job=Town Treasurer-nearing the end of Tax Collection 😯 ). Extremely easy to set-up and use. I use Microsoft Money 2003 for home stuff. The programs actually came downloaded on the harddrives.

MicroSoft has an Office Accoutning program also.. saw a free download at this site. Not sure if it is for a trial or an overview, but you can go here to see what ya think.

MS Office Accounting Express 2007 free download

I love MS products.. usually very easy to use. I use MSMoney myself for home.

Hey….Let me look at home. I might have received a copy of sometype with one of my schoolbooks, when I was going for my BA in Management in 2005-06. I had received a disc with MS Office package with one of them, I remember!!!

How in-depth do you want your nonprofit to track things (how detailed are fundraising efforts going to be tracked—i.e. per donor specifically, or just general per event, etc)? I know last fall Flushingrouse and I worked a bit on the nonprofit incorporation, but never heard back from him to proceed. Before you purchase software, I’d get the incorporation going. Through this process, you’ll have to figure out some operating procedures, thus determining the level of complexity. Blackbaud, Fund E-Z, and MIP all have specific nonprofit accounting softwares. I think Quickbooks might have a nonprofit version also.

I’m still willing to help with the nonprofit process if you need me. Let me know.

Actually, this is for a “Tax exempt” corporations, 501(c)(5), labor organization. Our union at work was forced to seperate and form a seperate local.

We have the opportunity to start our record keeping electronically from the beginning stages of the organization. Luckily, we will not have months or years of past data to enter into the computer. I’m looking for software to help track all our dues, expenditures, income, etc. I want software that will help produce treasurer reports, monthly and yearly statements.

I’d just do a search for “nonprofit accounting software” on the internet and look up some of the suggestions I mentioned. I think Blackbaud’s basic package is about $700, I’m not sure what others are.

Since you are all talking about software… does anyone know of a half decent graphics program that I can use to layout a newsletter for a non-profit organization, that does not cost an arm and a leg, yet have the ability to finally be put into adobe for download?

Ok… now on my MS Office I DO have Office Publisher 2003. I could let you borrow the disc OR if I ever get my stupid burner to work, I could get a copy. It is one that came with my school books. Looks like it has some good graphices on it, but have to admit I have never needed to use it, so I am not sure!

    WELCOME!! 😀

Publisher is the best, cheap, but easy-to-use program for newsletters and brochures. Good luck!

Ok… so after I finish this newsletter in Publisher… how do I get it saved as an adobe file? ❓ I know… why is an ex-programmer asking silly questions like this… because I programmed and didn’t use silly things like Publisher. 😳

That I don’t know but please share when you get the answer!

You need to have an Adobe Writer utility. This is different then the free Adobe Acrobat reader. To my knowledge you will need to purchase something like Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard. I have never searched for a free writer utility however one might exist. Another option is Create Adobe PDF Online. I have never used this utility and am not sure of how well it works.

Basically once you have this software all you have to do is choose the “Print” command, then you will see a list of all available printers. One of these printer options should be something like print to PDF. Once you select the print to PDF option it will create a PDF of the current document.
