Just wanted to give a big ol pat on the back to all the crazy people who geocached this past weekend. I was amazed to see all the people out and about Saturday and Sunday. Maybe it is an obsession. Or maybe it is just crazy, out and about when it is 10 below across most of the state. In either case, all I can say is WOW!!!!!
For those interested in numbers, here is one I am pretty sure of:
Number of caches found by zuma with temp below -10: 0 (and that number aint changing.)
zuma

Nutty people… go home and stay warm! LOL

Then you good to go. Gloves and Mittens with handwarmers. I would of gone for more than the One I got, but the person I was caching with, wasn’t quite as insane.

02/06/2007 at 5:20 pm #1769751Somebody should Photoshop that picture to have his tongue stuck to an ammo box.
02/06/2007 at 5:58 pm #1769752Also avoid putting metal flashlights in your mouth .. you know, you put it in your mouth to hold it while you open the container with your hands .. yeah .. not me .. but it nearly happened to someone else.
02/06/2007 at 6:12 pm #1769753I really thought hard about going out there to cache, but I opted to go shopping at Cabelas instead!! Did my Geocaching in there LOL
02/06/2007 at 9:13 pm #1769754I wouldn’t of gone caching on Friday, but i was on the other side of that state, and had two hours of nothing to do while waiting for my family to meet me in LaCrosses. So while i waited i got 12 caches, and three DeLorme Pages.. I had fun though! Froze my behind off but i didn’t mind at all!

Who told you I was crazy? I thought that was part of the patient-doctor HIPAA protections! Well gee, now the secret is out…

02/07/2007 at 3:10 pm #1769757It wasn’t the minus temps that were the problem it was the wind chill factor. I did without thinking put my metal Fisher Space pen in my mouth just for a moment and had that exact image pop in my head. Won’t do that again. Just holding it barehanded almost gave my fingers freezer burn.
Made a run to Sportsman Warehouse and grabbed a pair of thin glove liners. No more bare-hands for me when temps are below 0. I did find that running from cache to cache didn’t seem as exhausting as normal. I actually ran across some crazy guy walking his dog and taking pictures barehanded. Burrrrrr. Now that is what I call crazy.
Then again I have been camping at Zion Beach while in Boy Scouts when it was much colder then this. Then again again I do recall that experience vividly and it is not one I want to experience again anytime soon.
Best piece of advise where lots of layers and make sure the battery in your car is well capable of starting your car in sub zero temps. Nothing worse then getting back to your car and have it not start.
