While Zuma was in the Appleton area over the weekend, we talked about a lot of things. One topic was cemetery caches, and perhaps getting all the owners of such in Wisconsin to identify them by the SQ name.

SQ stands for Spirit Quest. Cachers in the IN-OH-MI area have joined forces in a naming convention to identify their caches which have been places in connection with pioneer cemeteries.

Here is a link to one of the caches down in Indiana:

Our question here is whether or not Wisconsin cachers, who own caches in cemeteries, would be interested in doing the same.

I have one, and would not mind the convention.

I think the naming convention, while being totally voluntary is a good idea.

SQ (Spirit Quest) is already used in several states to designate cemetary hides. Some folks love cemetary hides/others hate em. By naming them SQ, it would let a person know at a glance that it is a cemetary hide.

Personally, I like cemetary hides, but often avoid them when caching with my dog, and I know several others who cache with dogs. It is just nice to know ahead of time which places are dog unfriendly.

I personally do not have a cemetery hide, but Coming from Ohio, i think its a good idea as its a easy way to identify these particular hides.. So yea i think its a good idea

I would welcome such a designator.

For the most part I’m not in to finding cemetery caches … I will on occasion seek one, but typically if I’m near it during another cache.

I think this is a great idea. I’d broached the idea last time I was with Zuma as well. Marc has been the most prolific placing cemetery caches I believe, and his numbering system has been handy and is immediately recognizable. Exactly the reason we would want to consider an organized system. For those who aren’t cemetery cachers, it’s fair warning, and for those of us who have become aficionados, we can plan accordingly.

I had thought to start placing some cemetery caches this spring, so I’ll be interested to see where this goes

I’m in favor of this, but I think we should extend it to some other series. Here are some ideas:

    SQ = Spirit Quest
CT = Christmas Tree Hide – This ones for you, Zuma!
MRP = Micro in a rock pile
LLH – Lame Lamppost Hide – (someone in Indiana actually has a series called ALP = Another Lamp Post)
GE – Hider apparently relied on Google Earth to set the coordinates

What? You don’t think we would get a lot of people participating in the LLH series?

❓ I’m undecided at this time. I have quite a few cemtery hides. Just planted two last week with one being a multi. Tami

I love the idea; I’d go out of my way to do a cache in a cemetery so IDing them would really help me to find them.

We enjoy the cemetery caches and are working on a couple of hides in our area. We like the WCC series because we can ID them as such. It looks like there are 578 listings with “Spirit Quest” in the title, most of which are in IN. Perhaps we should participate.

I have one hide as well, plus I’ve considered doing more. Let’s just say it would work for me.

Gary, are you aware I have a bookmark list of cemetery caches in Wisconsin?

BTW, whatever format is used in IDing them, it will require a bookmark to find all the caches using it. Since I already have the one bookmark started, I would be willing to continue doing that.

Ya know I guess I was vaguely aware of that but I’m afraid I do not pay bookmarks all the credit they deserve. If I’m going to an area and see the SQ notation though it would stand out to me (that way I would not have to check a bookmark for each area). Nice job on the bookmark BTW; I was surprised how quickly you added one of the last ones (within in a day or so of a new cache).
