Who is in charge at Groundspeak, and how do I email him?
We were quoted a specific price and procedure for ordering 70 Travel Bug dogtags for our school kids. We followed directions precisely, but I was billed almost $30.00 more than the quote. Our order was based on the specific amount of money we had in hand, so the extra will come out of my pocket.
I have sent four emails to the person at Groundspeak who provided the quote, over the span of the last three weeks. None of these have been responded to.
I guess it is time to go to the top.
Thanks for the info.

Pick up the phone: (206) 302-7721
The last time I called that number Jeremy Irish himself answered it.
Remember they are on Pacific time, so you might need to wait until lunch time here.
06/07/2007 at 8:39 pm #1875304OK, I’ve tried the phone routine several times, several days, it just is not working. An automated answering system is in place at Groundspeak, apparently in something other than the Queens English. When I finally punched enough numbers, and eventually got through to Customer Service, they refered me to another vendor (even though the price quote was from Groundspeak). They had no interest in trying to talk to me. That vendor’s answering system doesn’t work, just keeps endlessly playing the same greeting, and ignores whatever menu numbers are entered.
Can somebody please give me Jeremy Irish’s email address?
Thanks,

If you received a bill only pay the portion you were quoted with a copy of the quote enclosed.
If you already paid and it was done by credit card write your credit card company with a copy of the quote and ask that the difference be refuted.
If you paid some other means or have no copy or written proof of the quote then you paid what they wanted you to pay and it’s a she said he said issue.
Basically if you’re able to deal with your Credit Card Company or short change them so they have to get a hold of you.
06/09/2007 at 1:56 pm #1875308Hey all,
I contacted Grandpa Jim and he gave his okay to let everyone in on why he needed 70 Travel bugs. Here is an exerpt from the email I received from Sagasu as he was the FTF on the “Seton’s Eagle Nest cache (GC13EA5) set out by The SetonCachers, JEM Team, and Grandpa.“This fall, every sixth grader in our school will be releasing a TB – close

Below is his response:@Gram&Gramps wrote:
WOW, what a great offer! Thanks a bunch.
Being a parochial school, we are always on the hunt for extra money, and this project has been funded in exactly that way – not from tuitions, fundraisers, etc, but by people who are committed to Geocaching, kids, and education.
Anything you’d care to share would be greatly appreciated. Please clearly mark your check and cover note that your gift is for the ‘GeoCaching Project’, and send to:
Seton Catholic Middle School

Menasha, WI 54952Thanks, too, for the offer to hawk this on the website. I intend to to that, but will probably wait until Fall when we actually get the kids back, and they begin putting together their TB’s. We’ll launch some over in the Valley, but probably also send some out from our Computer cache here in Waupaca. We’ll need some help dispersing them from the cachers out this way as well as some of the fanatics over around Menasha! But discussion about the new cache and it’s intentions and our project in the forums is certainly OK anytime…
Thanks a lot for the support, it is really appreciated.
cYa, Grandpa Jim
anyone else want to help? The info is above.

06/13/2007 at 7:08 pm #1875309First of all, thank you very much to all who have spoken up in support of the projects we have going at school. The emails and postings here have been very encouraging and much appreciated.
Follows is an edited version of what I sent to the ‘contact at groundspeak’ email address today. I’ll be interested to see if it generates any action or response.
“Hello –
I recently requested a quote for the purchase of 70 Travel Bug dogtags for use as a school project. My email was answered by a B… R… from Groundspeak. He advised of a **% educational discount (unadvertised), and sent a code to enter during the ordering process.
I did the math, and figured we could order the 70 needed, pay the shipping and handling charges, and still stay within our budget. I placed the order and entered our code as directed, but immediately saw that the **% discount was not computed, and our bill was up to $***.**, almost $30.00 too high. I immediately emailed Mr. R… advising of the glitch asking for a remedy, and got no reply.
Since then, I have emailed B… R… 3 or 4 more times, and have gotten no response from him. My emails were replies to one he sent me, so I am reasonably sure the address was correct, plus nothing bounced back.
I have also attempted to resolve this by phone with Groundspeak. One time I gave up after getting bounced around the automated answering machines and then sitting on hold for one-half hour. Another day, I did connect with a human being who claimed that Groundspeak had no responsibility, and he referred me to another outfit who he said actually sold the tags. Their phone system was terrible, whatever numbers I keyed in from the menu were ignored and just bounced me back to the original greeting. All in all, I wasted over an hour of my cell minutes trying in vain to straighten this out.
Today this charge is on my VISA credit card bill. I have directed them to pay to you $***.** for the TB tags (70 tags @ $4.25 = $297.50 minus **% ($**.**) = $***.**) plus the computed s/h charges of $13.09, for a total of $***.**.
I am sorry this is a hassle for you and me. I can appreciate website technology not working on occasion, but I addressed this immediately, and several time subsequently, and this could have been resolved easily in a timely fashion. I am disappointed at the mix-up, but am very unimpressed with the lack of response to a legitimate complaint about your failure to live up to a quoted price.
I sincerely hope this is an isolated incident, and not indicative of the way Groundspeak does business.
Jim
