Anybody found one yet? They are small, about the size of a quarter and are signature items with their own tracking number. You keep them, and add them to your collection. We were lucky enough to score one in a cache recently and are going to order some for ourselves. 😛 We can then see where all of them are going, who picks them up etc… They look like geocoins, only smaller. Really, really neat idea. 😀 http://www.pathtags.com – I hope this becomes a big trend and more people order them.

Great! Can you tell me how to get the coupon? I don’t remember seeing it on the webpage. I sent a design out, hopefully we will have them ready and ordered soon.

You keep them????? We assume you mean only if it is not registered. We looked one up on Pathtags.com that we ran across and it said it was already registered so we dropped in Climbers Wayside #3. It should still be there if anybody wants to go get it!!! It was our first Pathtag and it was cool!

YES! That is the whole idea 😀 The owner has a registration number for their pathtags. You get an account on that site and then log your pathtags that you find. You can even get a clip to keep them on. The owner has the fun of watching where they are picked up and you can trade them or keep them, check out the site. Some of them are really neat!

DAAAARRRRNNN! Wish we had known what we were doing! Now it’s a race to get back down to that cache before anyone else does! Thanks for the heads up!!!!

Lady Bandit just told me that we actually did create an account and logged the tag as found. We should have read the fine print!

              😯

I happened upon the products website a few weeks back, and was wondering if these were making there way into geocaches. Now I know.

A QUESTION … Do you think these things have enough “collect-ability” that I worked with my local state park for them to have one made representing that specific park, and they then sold them in the gift shop as an individual item … would people (such as geocachers) potentially buy one? I suspect the main point of these items is to get a set made and give them away … so I’m not sure how this idea would fly.

I’m trying to work with the local state park on promoting geocaching and attracting people to going into the office / gift shop. The idea of these occurred to me, but maybe it’s a dumb idea.

I love it! I would buy one. I sure hope the idea takes off. I am working with the designer for our pathtag today, few more revisions and they will be going to the manufacturer. I am really excited about it. They would make great FTF prizes too. 😀 I think more people just need to know what they are. I plan on making some sort of little card to put them on to explain how to log and trade them.

Yes, I saw a tag in Marshfield this past weekend. I thought it was a mini geocoin at first, but there wasn’t any geocaching reference on it, so I left it there. I do recall seeing a tracking number though. If I understand this right, if you find one, you can keep it? Then what is the point of the tracking number? It sounds like it is more of a collectable than a ” let’s see where this one goes” type of thing. Maybe I just misunderstand this new thing.

The point of the tracking number from the owner who uses these as swag is to see where they get picked up and by whom. The purpose of the people who pick them up is to collect them. You can put them on a chain or collector hook and then also you have an online account to see all your tags/trade with others, etc… I would rather spend my money on these than to send my coins off and have them get ripped off. At least I know that the pathtag will stay with who found it and they can enjoy it.

Thanks lonesum. I was just investigating a bit. Seems like a pretty neat idea. Now the hard part, coming up with a design that says something about myself yet won’t be offensive to others.

😆 With that name, boy I can think of a MILLION ideas! Good luck. I just went out to Microsoft’s clip art site and started looking around… came up with a quite a cute design and submitted it to one of the artists at the site to help with finishing touches.
