This one wasn’t overly difficult, and the hide was not one of the cleverest I had seen before but this is the type of cache I’ve found most intriguing and most enjoyable.
Short walk in from the highway, I got there, found the cache in 30 seconds because you go “what is that?” when you get there. Then you go why was that here and no other remnants?
I spent another 15-20 minutes just turning circles looking for clues of what may have been there but is now long recycled by mother nature.
If you are up in Florence county its a quick, fun find!

Did you see the hole in the tree where the porcupine hangs out? I, (Mrs TE) almost got a hand full of quills looking for the cache. We made that one a bit more exciting by doing it during the 12 year old gun deer hunt… I agree with the why/what question there. Interesting that is for sure.
TEDefinitely a unique spot for a cache. Dad and I both enjoyed this one. The porcupine residence was an added bonus. You can’t miss it. Look for the 2ft pile of PP(Porcupine Poop). Looks like someone dumped a 20lb bag of dog food.
I did that cache as part of a group with Jeremy, Marc and k0rpl last fall and that was a highlight of our (quick) jaunt across northern WI, trying to pick up Delorme pages. We actually looked around for a while before discovering it, then thought it was the coolest hide of the day….come to think of it, it might be worth nominating for COTM. 🙂

I missed the porcupine pile, thankfully, that would’ve been my 2nd run in with big porcu’s this summer!
Bookmarked it. We’re gonna camp over by Florence next wknd. Can’t wait to see the Zimmerman cache.
I found this one today. It was easily my favorite of 31 found today as I traveled across the state. I think I found the porcupine pile. A deer hunter seems to have set up shop in the area as there is a salt lick within 20 feet of the cache.
Things that make you go, “hmm?” A different place. The anticipation was strong until the last log I read before leaving on our camping trip. It revealed the mystery. It was still neat.
But speaking of Florence County…
