It is a bummer the event is not listed on geocaching.com so I am not planning on going. I also doubt the coin is trackable.

We’ve already registered to be there. We’ll let you know how it is.

I just posted this in the Announcement area too.

Think I will try to make it.

Always wanting to help others in our pastime even if it isn’t listed geocaching.com.

we are going to try and make it too.. sounds like lots of fun. I did email them and asked if they wanted help listing it on geocaching.com. Thought maybe it would drum up more business for them….

Becuase they are charging a fee for participation, the geocaching guidelines do not allow this to be listed as an event. By having it posted, it’ll get lots of attention! If I’m free, I’ll be going!

Is the fee for park entrance, or for “playing along”? Couldn’t we use those free passes we’ve gotten from the Fox 6 geocaches?… ❓

It MIGHT be trackable … as Vince had emailed me about 6 months ago asking questions, which including how to order trackable coins. I will ask him … stay tuned.

      Yes, and yes.

Well its normally $4 for non memeber adult and $2 for nm kids. So maybe the fee is for both entrance and for playing. The receptionist was not sure if we could use the park passes from the caches as payment for this event. I am going to call a person I know that works there to see if they can find out for me.

Not a big deal. I’d actually prefer $6 go to the Shlitz Audobon. I’m not gonna haggle over a few bucks. I was merely curious if these were tied in somehow.

Here’s the low down from Vince C. on the event …

      Hi Ron,

Thanks for your e-mail. The CacheFest we are holding with Schlitz Audubon Nature Center will NOT have trackable coins (there will be coins to be given out, but they are not official geocoins), and the caches will NOT be listed on geocaching.com. This is mainly an event just for fun and specifically designed for newbies and people who want to learn about geocaching. But obviously everybody is invited.

As I understand it from Jim Hyatt at the nature center, they will hide 30 caches throughout the center. Each cache container will hold a stamp. People participating in CacheFest will have a passport booklet with coords to each cache. Once they find one they can stamp their passport book. There will be prizes for those with the most stamps, etc.

… I was thinking about this, since the focus is newbies and want-to-bies … it’s likely good that they are NOT trackable coins, as I got to think a lot of them would never make it out into the geo-world any way.

Its on our calendar, if nothing else just to say we got 30 caches in one day. SANC is a great area to hike around. It should be fun, as long as its not so crowded, that we are following a line of people from one to the next.

Well he does say that coins will be given out but not official geocoins. We have to work that day at 4 P.M. so we may just have to skip this one.
