Some of us have 100’s of ftf’s, others just a handful, while all ftf’s have been memorable, do any stick out? have a favorite?
I have a couple
Nifty Fifty – a co-ftf with Sagasu that required a nice little dip in lake winnebago and a rash to follow.. was still fun though.
Hyde’s Web – first FTF on a seldom|seen hide that broke the dam it seemed for clever puzzles and containers.
I’d Walk A Mile – another cool s|s puzzle ftf.
Memorial to Those – Up in gb for hamfest, things kinda slowed down so K0rpl and I hit the road for some food and a couple of caches… got a unexpected ftf on this 1/1 that had been out for a few days.
I can see for miles and miles – heights and I don’t get along…this was on top of a look out tower.
Whats yours?
10/30/2007 at 8:47 pm #1880739I live in Daveland, I don’t get a chance at FTF’s anymore. Just Kidding Dave.
But Pre Dave it was probably Astro Dollars C. Robusta By Gizfinder. It was my first ftf. I saw it was published before email alerts and had a feeling I could get it so I went and made the grab after I took the kids to school.
Of course there is Daves World of Cheese. It was my first on a puzzle.
10/30/2007 at 9:59 pm #1880740Not only my most memorable, but my most satisfying FTF wasn’t a cache but a benchmark. It hadn’t been looked at in about 30 years, if I remember right. The only thing around was a little piece of an old witness post that looked to be sheared off about 2 inches above the ground. A nearby building was mentioned, but was no longer there. The only thing that remained from it was a concrete slab. After looking at and studying the official description I narrowed it down to a certain spot. It might sound like looking for a needle in the old haystack, but I started digging, and I actually found it about 4 inches below the surface in the first place I looked. I really like looking for the old bechmarks that the surveyors can’t seem to find. Talk about a sense of accomplishment.

The most memorable has to be my FTF on GizFinder’s cache “Houdini Caching Tour”. This one took most of the day to iron out with some early puzzle cache “issues” and revisits to many waypoints. It was a very satisfying moment when I got to an empty log with other’s serious in the chase for this one.
Seldom|Seen’s “Fallen Son” was another memorable one. Stayed up most of a whole night researching this one so I could go find it early in the morning before work.
marc 5digit’s “Just another Appleton park in Cacalin” was one of the best ftf’s because this cache was published on June 16th and I was the first to solve this puzzle and find it nearly 3 months later in September! I had a smile on my face when I found this one first. It was definitely a sense of accomplishment to solve one no one else had yet after all that time!
Then theres s|s’ “Crazy Retro Driver’s wanted”. Let’s just say this cace race was not called “crazy” when it started but as the race came to a speeding photo finish it was definitely crazy. Sagasu graciously shared the co-ftf on this race as we finished at roughly the same time and being the fair sportsman that we both are we called it a tie. Talk about a lot of work for an FTF! If you are not familiar, take a look at what was needed to log this one..
Finally, I would say another one from Giz: “Cache of the Day”. It was fun to know that I was the first to figure out the technique to catch this one.
Ah, the memories!!!

10/31/2007 at 2:34 pm #1880742Ours would be “Lost In Josten” in Green Bay by Gibonacci. It is a great multi-cache. If you haven’t done it yet I would HIGHLY recommend it.
We also met up with TKKS for the first time doing this cache.
11/11/2007 at 2:12 am #1880743Sagasu would probably get on my case if I didn’t mention this one:
Fire In The Sky (GC1575V) on Rock Island. I changed around my vacation schedule to get that one. And in the end I paid dearly for it as well – check out my log. The kids will never, ever forget it.
11/11/2007 at 2:57 am #1880744I’m one of those with only a handful of FTFs so it isn’t too hard to pick out the most memorable one.
TALL TALE #2 Sagasu’s Spectacular Sunflower would have to be the one.
On a cold April day when this went active, I had the day off and decided to make the attempt. Somewhere along the trip over, I was talking with Sagasu and told him I was on my way. He tried to deter me by saying that there were others who chose not to even attempt it as we had just received 1/4-1/2 inch of new snow and the first waypoint would be very difficult to locate. Still I came, and was at least going to give it the old college try. I actually found the first waypoint pretty quick, and went on to the second. That turned out to be the most difficult at that time as I had no clue what I was looking for. I had not seen the variations those stupid little nanos could used in. Finally some visual hint tipped me off and I made the find of WP2. The trek to the final went pretty well other than the numerous trip hazards on the way but the huge, well stocked final made it all worth it.
Oh, did I mention that Sagasu showed up while I was looking for WP2?
It was a treat for him too watching me make the FTF.Now, because of expansion at the cemetery and with the highway at that location, this cache has been moved out to the WiOuWaSh trail, renamed
Sagasu’s Spectacular Sunflower on the WiOuWaSh, and newly reactivated MAKING IT OPEN FOR A NEW FTF SEEKER and loggable a second time for those who found it in the original location. I have been challenged to make the FTF on the new location too, but may not have the time so have at it!!!Note: The FTF on this one fell at 530pm to Sparse Grey Hackle and the Blondie Bloodhound. Don’t let that stop you though, check out the log.

11/11/2007 at 2:08 pm #1880745Ours would have to be the two in Hartman Creek State Park. Before shutting down the computer as we were getting ready for a week of vacation, I just had to check GC.com. What do you know, two new caches right in our neighborhood. Gram rolled her eyes as our son & I jumped into the truck to race off to the park. We got them both, and got home in time to leave on vacation as scheduled.
I still don’t know why my wife thinks I am addicted…

11/18/2007 at 9:51 am #1880746My favorite FTF was Island of Lost Boys-Toys. I worked the night before and had a meeting to go to after that so I left work a little early and stopped at the cache on my way – kind of on my way 😆 . I had talked to Zuma that night and knew that he was going to go after this one that day. It was one of my first FTF’s and as I opened the log book and saw it was empty I was chuckling to myself thinking about Zuma’s expression when he opened the log book and saw that I beat him to it 😮 . That was the best part – kept me smiling the rest of the day. It was a good cache too. I don’t dare beat him to a FTF these days – not unless he makes me mad. 😈
