This is a tremendous Earthcache.

If you like earthcaches or just fossil hunting and your in Iowa try this.
I agree whole heartedly. I’ve become really partial to Earthcaches and this Earthcache is exceptional. If you visit this special place, be sure to take some time and visit the Interpretive Centre while there.
I went to Iowa Sat to do an Earth cache…I saw this one on GC too but it was a bit too far for my taste…some day I hope to get to see it though cuz it looks really great.
We were there late Friday afternoon. We came straight from doing Brets earthcach in Winona GC15538 .
The center is closed for the season. I will go back come spring when its open. Although the quarry is open for fossil hunting I believe we missed most of what the park has to offer. We found 7 fossils in about 20 minutes. They laid right on the surface.

I also recommend visiting this park. I have stopped here twice on motorcycle trips across Iowa, and found the nearby (and much older) Brachiopod (GCJB0G) cache. Like decdogg says, the fossils are literally everywhere. I probably took a half dozen good Brachiopod fossils, and found some less common coral and snail fossils.
But watch yourself on the slopes of the quarry! The last time I was there, I got caught in huge thunderstorm. I tried to quickly get back up to the parking area. (Why I don’t know… it is not like I had a vehicle to sit in to stay dry! :)). When I got close to the top of one of the “hills”, there was a mini avalanche and the next thing I know I was at the bottom… dirty, bruised, and with a bloody nose! 😳
