I think it was djwini who had a question about running GSAK on an Apple computer. I can not find that thread ………

Well, GSAK will run on an iMac…………but.

    There is always a but.

The new iMacs have the capability of running a windows environment in addition to the Apple OS. As such, you are able to run GSAK.

Another but…………You need to buy and install Windows, a converter program, etc. That means several hundred more dollars to the cost. And having the tech at the store install these for you………

I have run GSAK on my new iMac, and have been able to install waypoints to my GPS. Still progressing thru other programs, trying to get them loaded and or working.

I(my wife actually) has been trying to set up our mac for caching. Ours is two or three years old now, so I believe that we will have a little more difficulty in doing so. Anyway, check out http://www.maccaching.com. If anything, you might find some other links that may be helpful.

So if you have to install windows (i.e. and buy windows, more importantly) on your machine to be able to do the only important thing with your computer, tell me again why anyone would buy a mac? Isn’t the main advantage to using an apple product that you aren’t using windows? That’s what their marketing campaign seems to be saying everyday all day on the tv… I guess you can say apple makes a prettier, “desirable” product.. that I will give them.

I am not anti-mac or anti-apple, I just question the logic of buying a brand new mac and running windows on it..

I spent several long years supporting mac customers while working for an internet provider. The machines seemed to be the easy part. In fact, at the time, dial up internet was easier to get going on a mac than a PC. Think back to dial up scripting times, the ancient old days before the invention of “high speed internet” and our beloved GPS technology… It was the mac owners you had to watch out for!

“…ancient old days before the invention of high speed internet…”
Hell, I still use dial up.

Back in the old days (like 1988 or so), when there were many competing PC standards (MSDOS, Mac, AppleII, Kaypro, Z80, Unix clones, Amiga, etc.), the standard conventional wisdom was to determine what software you needed, then buy the hardware that would run it. I believe this is still good advice today.

I bought McKenzie for a couple of reasons:

    1. Time for a new computer
    2. Monitor and cpu all in one unit.
    3. Apple’s OS much better dealing with Internet
    4. Money to burn…….?

The light colored table in the background is my ‘puzzle table’, hiding in an alcove. I have all the puzzle folders stashed back there. Also holds my printer.
