    Sounds like a fun twist to the game. I think it’s a good idea just to get people out to the caches regardless of trying to win a coin for a prize. Just to be a part of the fun is reward enough.

    Hey,

    Sounds great to me….Looking forward to it.

    I think it would be great. We’ve found some that have sat for as long as a year. That’s always fun and I know as a cache owner, I like seeing an “a-ok” post on ours that get less company. Seems like the lonely ones are often puzzles or ones that require a journey to get to. Those are among our favorite caches.

    After reading the rules, I think we need to hold off a few weeks before going after one. It’s been over a year since it was found!

    We’re in! Sounds like quite a bit of fun in the snow.

    Bandits: You realize the topic was lonely caches, NOT “Lonely Cachers!”

    😆

    I’m always up for a challenge! Bec and I have specifically gone after lonely caches before. Might as well get points for it.

    Sounds like it could be fun. But I think I’d be more likely to participate if I didn’t have to travel far. I don’t know how many caches there are statewide that haven’t been found in over 4 months, but I’m guessing not many near where I live. So I’d propose the following rule changes: Any cache that hasn’t been found in over 30 days is eligible. You score 1 point for each day that it has gone without being found.

    This still rewards people who get the 4+ month caches that are out there due to their remote location or difficulty, but because there will be far more eligible caches, it also encourages more participation for those like me who would rather not travel for whatever reason (time, price of gas, etc). And even finding caches that have gone 1 or 2 months without a find can benefit from the reasons you state.

    Perhaps this favors those who live in high cache density areas too much, so you might have to tweak some things, e.g. make it 45 or 60 days for eligible caches. Or, you could have a sliding point scale, e.g. 1 point for each day when cache hasn’t been found for over 30 days, 2 points for each day when over 60 days, 3 points when over 90 days, etc. or even better, a logarithmic (exponential?) scale, e.g. num days to the 1.2 power. Again, this gives added rewards to those remote/difficult caches, which is the point of the contest.

    Note, I’m not whining, at least I’m not trying to 😆 . Just putting out an idea to see how it floats.

    What an interesting idea…we are in!!

    I don’t get away from my local area very often, so I probably wont score very high, but I’d like to play. Heck, maybe this game will get me out of the area more. 😀

    Good idea Dave. Maybe we can add something to the WGA site to allow folks to easily submit their score reports, possibly using the recent logs we harvest?

    I’ll also donate a couple WGA geocoins (2005 and 2007) as prizes. And it might be nice to have monthly winners or second/third/fourth place prizes, instead of just one big winner at the end.

    The first paragraph is in reference to ABCDMCachers post. This forum is busy this afternoon.

    Believe it or not, there are a lot of these caches in SE Wisconsin. There are a total of 54 caches on the list (of 456) within 30 miles of “The Buggy Bug Hotel” which is quite close to your house, I think. Quite few in Oconomowoc, along the Milwaukee County Parkways, in the Kettle Moraine, etc. There is also a big chunk in Kenosha County. The whole idea is to focus on the really old ones. I did go through the list and weed out all the “obviously missing” caches, so most of these are there to be found. Since obviously people like this idea, I’ll get my bookmark list going tonight so you can look at it.

    On a related note, I have received a couple suggestions privately. First is a bonus for moving travel bugs (2 for moving, 1 for reporting missing). This seems like a good idea to me. Any objections?

    Second, someone suggested that we need either more or bigger prizes, and backed up their suggestion with a donation offer. I’m thinking maybe prizes for the top 5 or so. Any thoughts on this?

    I think the TB idea is a great one. Anything to get them moving is worth it.

    And after doing a quick survey, here are the numbers of “Caches on the list within 30 miles of”

    Brookfield = 54
    Madison = 30
    Appleton = 46
    Green Bay = 39
    Eau Claire = 56
    Kenosha = 30 (That darn border and lake cuts down on the numbers)

    So, No Whining!

    Sounds good to me. The old caches kinda feel like a First to find now there are points on them too boot. Cool
