How about a events area in the forums?
Michigan has a area like this on their forums and its nice to be able to look there for the latest info

We have a page devoted to events with a link on the left of this page. Do you see a need for more than that? A separate forum would provide for member input, but this has never been an issue. What am I missing?

Thanks for pointing out that link. It is hardly noticeable and does not allow for any discussion.
I agree with sweetlife that such a forum would be a good idea. I did a quick count and 11 of the topics in the announcements section related to events. Obviously the authors of these topics felt some discussion was appropriate.
It would seem that an events forum would be at least as valuable as an off topic forum. I too, had never noticed the events section on the left side.
