This forum is like an interactive diary. My progress to date has included acting on tips I have received from everyone here. I have registered a premium membership at Geocaching.com . I purchased the 3 dragon coin. I downloaded the free log templates in two sizes from Coinswag.com- I also found two free templates at TheCachingPlace.com for the decoder coins. These templates will make it possible to do home made Fimo clay coins. Fimo is very cheap, colorful, and will hold up to the weather, and will travel well. There are collectors who focus on homemade coins. The materials for placing a cache are coming together. Can home made coins be registered to travel? If so how do you do that? Has this sport been totally sucked into the vortex of commercially applied materials? Are homemade coins OK 🙄 ?
We will do some trial and error learning with our compass and the Google Topographical Maps to locate the caches near here. In the future coordinating a hunt with Timberline Echoes might be a crossroads for us. We could see their equipment, and how easy it is to use it. Then we might invest in a GPS. But we might enjoy using the compass and google maps.
In closing this is my response to all who noticed my presence here as a new member. Thanks so much!

Also interested in finding out if homemade “coins” can be made trackable.. do you have a link to the kind you are talking about?
We were just think about getting colored aluminum disks and punching
words/pictures on them… Still trying to come up with something unique,
but creativity is not my baliwick!
