How about a few different topics. Here are some suggestions.
How about The WGA Cook Book? Just a place for members to post different recipes and such. Recipes like your favorite camping recipes or just your favorite recipes in general.
Camping/Parks. A place to for member to post about their favorite camping spots or favorite parks they like to go to,
Four-legged cachers. A place to post pics of our for-legged buddies.
Like I said, these are just some suggestions. They may be good or they maybe bad.
02/28/2008 at 4:21 am #1885266OK, I have thought about them. Now what?
Seriously….
I think the cook book idea is overused by too many organizations. Not sure how a WGA one would be any different. And who handles the sales?
Four legged friends are best ………well, I’m not a dog lover, despite Jessie being really nice. I see quite a few profiles with dogs on them. I always imagine the owners picked out the best picture to post!??
Otherwise, the WGA photo album is there for anyone to use.
02/28/2008 at 11:49 am #1885267I don’t want to start a cook book, that is just an idea as to what to call the forum.
I just like to cook. Marc, why are you always anti everything?02/28/2008 at 12:18 pm #1885268Are you suggesting the creation of off shoots of the “Off Topic” thread?
02/28/2008 at 12:55 pm #1885269Marc, why are you always anti everything?
❓ ❓
I would submit to a cookbook thread…
And a cacher dog thread. My new puppy has gone on a handful of cache outtings now. He is a hunting dog and leads me back to where we started every time (along with finding his way back to each cache we visited). I just need to get him to find them for me in the first place! Still working on that one…
Everyone always points to “offtopic” when people suggest things like this, but a single thread in offtopic get’s buried very quickly (especially now with all these picture posts from the east coast). If there is a spot for things, they don’t get buried and people then use them more.
just my thoughts.
02/28/2008 at 1:53 pm #1885270These are all good ideas, and pretty much what we have the off-topic forum for. Feel free to start a recipes (or whatever) thread and post away, preferably with mouth-watering pictures as well.

Oh, but I am not anti everything.
I’m pro…
Reading
Sleeping
Caching
Driving
Hiking
Eating…to name a few. you just happen to pick a couple I’m not particularily fond of.
02/28/2008 at 4:34 pm #1885272feel free to start a recipes (or whatever) thread and post away
again, the thread would get buried soon. could some recurring topics that we want seen all the time be flagged as “Stickies” or whatever to keep them up top?
I understand that forums should not be filled with categories for posting as it becomes un-manageable but at the same time, if a thread like these get’s pushed down half the page even, folks will forget about them. If they are at the top, maybe it would spark interesting new posts from time to time that others are interested in.
Feel free to debate pros and cons… I just think that recurring themed threads are much more condusive to conversation than folks posting new threads in “Offtopic” and then it getting lost and a similar subject is started in a new thread later.
02/28/2008 at 4:38 pm #1885273Stickies are abhorred by the management.
(believe me I have tried….but my suggestions are apparently also insignificant 🙁 )02/28/2008 at 4:51 pm #1885274had to look that one up…

LOL…sry. I love words…just don’t ask me to spell them.
02/28/2008 at 5:39 pm #1885276I was thinking like sub-topics in the off topic section.

I like the Camping/Parks suggestion, and I’m not sure it’s Off Topic, since most people seem to include caching when they go camping. You might want to consider broadening the topic to Travel – not just camping and parks.
It would be the obvious forum for camping spot questions, instead of deciding if a request for camping suggestions in SW Wisconsin should go in the SW Wisconsin forum, Help forum, General forum, or Off Topic.
It would be easier for people looking for camping suggestions to browse through one forum to get ideas before posting a question, then to browse through all the forums because recommendations are scattered throughout.
By broadening it to include other travel it would be the spot to recommend areas for caching, even if you don’t have a specific cache to recommend. If you were going on a trip you could ask here if anyone has caching suggestions for the area. Again it would be a single place for others to browse through when looking for ideas.
I think the four-legged cachers pictures and stories would be a fun topic in the OT forum, but not sure if there would be enough discussion after the initial postings to warrant a separate forum.
Ditto for the cookbook, although keeping it as a separate forum would help keep it from getting buried, plus you’re more likely to have a great new recipe to post or a recipe request than pictures of a new pet (at least I get new recipes faster than new pets).
JMHO
02/29/2008 at 3:03 am #1885278Could add to the camping info. Not interested in a cookbook or four legged creatures. Since the iguana died we are petless and like it that way.
Hobbies of others would be interesting. We enjoy canoeing, traveling, photography, biking, snowshoeing, writing. Mrs. likes scrapbooking, altering books, art quilts and collecting miniature snowshoes. Mr likes civil war history info too.
How or if people keep track of caches they have done. Scrapbooks, journals, scraps of paper, computer maps, etc. may be fun to learn about.
