There seems to be a lot of differences regarding cacher’s choices of navigational equipment. I am curious as to what kind everyone uses the most.

    I personally use a Garmin Legend C.

Started with a magellan that I got as a b’day present. Just bought myself the Garmin Etrex Vista HCX for Christmas and still getting used to it but it sure beats putting in the coordinates manually!

    I have quite a few,

Guess I would have to answer the question Garmin though, as that is what I have the most of.

    My normal caching GPSR’s are

    Garmin Rino 120
    Garmin Geko 201
    Garmin Foretrex 101

I started with a Yellow E-trex and after a year I went with the 60CSx.

I think I remember when you mentioned that were getting the new Garmin Map60Csx. I also noticed that since you got the new GPSr that your forum postings have increased! 😆

I started my geo-life with a Garmin GPSMap 12, with a whopping 1.4 mB of internal ram and no capability to upgrade. This unit is still by far the most comfortable to hold and geocache with (narrow and a little long).

A guy at work then sold me his Garmin eMap, w/software & cables for $100. This unit had an *amazing* 8mB of internal memory. This unit is by far the most svelte unit I own. I made a special handlebar mount and it use it all the time on my bicycle.

My wife (Mrs. Tie) then purchased for me a Garmin 76cs and the auto-routing software to go with it. This unit is by far the most clunky and hard to hold that I own. The buttons are also the most difficult to use of any that I own. It does auto-route well though.

I then picked up the best possible (at the time) unit for geocaching, a Garmin 60csx. This unit has the best reception of any that I own in demanding situations. It does a pretty good job at auto-routing, and I upgraded the memory to 2 GB, so I have the entire US and Canada loaded into it. It is OK to hold onto for long periods, but it is still a bit wide to fit completely comfortably in my hand.

The only unit I have had problems with is the 76cs. I originally used that on on the handlebar of my bicycle. But, hit a small bump and the stupid thing would shut down. People on these boards have gushed over Garmin customer service. When I called them to complain that my expensive, super-deluxe GPS would blink out when I hit a bump, all they would do is recommend that I jam some Styrofoam behind the battery contacts. Sheesh.

Started with Magellan Explorist 100 , went to a 200, then a 210 which has the Geocache Manager. recently bought a explorist 400 when I “misplaced” the 210. I like the Magellan and have no need to switch.
(Sagasu is using my 100 and you know it suits him fine)

Using a Garmin eTrex Legend — it has its flakiness, and I no longer have a serial port on my computer so hard to download to, but it’s paid for, and seems to work OK. Got it for $120 at Target

We have been using Garmin Etrex Legends since the begining. I don’t see any reason to upgrade.

Magellan. Started with a 300, then a 400, and now a 500. I’m surprised by the results thus far that there are that many magellan users out there. I don’t know that I have ever run into one on the trail.

Started with and still using two Magellan Platinums, but also picked up the little wrist Garmin so cheap that we grabbed two. Mrs. TE likes the little one, esp. when caching in a high muggle area. We both like all the roads, topo etc on the Magellan.

Similar to many people here, we started with Garmin Legend (old blue..) still use that to load the ones we own in case we get near for checking on them. But our main GPS is a Garmin 60csx and we love it.
