did i read once that there was a way to do something (poi?) to put the complete hint into the data field on the screen of my gps? i am wanting to by-pass the limitation garmin has that isn’t letting me show enough text.
04/18/2008 at 9:37 pm #1887994I’m not sure, but it would be nice. I can only fill about half of the screen, maybe a little less.
04/20/2008 at 3:50 am #1887995I have the hint on my legend hcx. %hint in one of the boxes on your export to mapsource (if you use mapsource and gsak) I cant remember which one. Only thing is you have to send to gps with mapsource, not gsak. I think I sent it with gsak once but I had to change settings. If you cant figure it out pm me and I’ll figure out how I did it.
04/20/2008 at 3:53 am #1887996I guess I should have read all the logs. I can’t load the whole hint either. I’m going to try to change the # of characters . I haven’t tried that
04/20/2008 at 4:21 am #1887997I changed my export to %hint=100 it seems to depend on the length of the words sometimes I get the whole hint, other times I get cut short.

Yes there is a way to get a bit more info into each waypoint, but you need a garmin X model handheld. This is because you need the card slot to load the waypoints as custom POI files to the data card.
If I remember correctly on my 60Cx can store 1000 normal waypoints that have a 14character name and 30 character note VS a unlimited custom POI can have a 44character name and 88 character note. Another nice advantage you can organize your custom POIs by category’s with a custom icon for each category.
I won’t go into to much detail in this post but here is the basics of how I use custom POIs….
I use this Gsak macro to export my waypoints: GarminCsvPoiExport 1.8 By ProsperoDK
http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=3172&st=0&#entry32637I then use garmins POI loader software to load my files to my gps.
