      We’ve been wanting to place some caches in some of the sloughs that are so common around here. Our first target would be the marked canoe trail at Perrot State Park. Thing is…the river is also under National Fish and Wildlife jurisdiction. Each segment between locks is considering a numbered “pool” and there’s been a ton of work done by the FWS to reclaim habitat and water quality.

      In the case of that canoe trail, would we even be able to place one, since it’s part of the park, too? Or is this a pipe dream?

          Although it would be a great place for some caches, unfortunately I don’t think it can be done. There was one published down near Prairie du Chien that lasted for a day or two before the reviewers realized that it was in a National Wildlife area, and then it was promptly archived.

            That’s kind of what I figured. I’ll check with park office to see if the canoe trail falls into FWS area before we try to put anything out.

              The Miss doesn’t fall under the Park Service does it? Does it have the National Scenic River way tag does it? Like the St. Croix and Namekagon rivers. I don’t think it does.

                No, it’s not part of the park service, but the segment along this tristate area—I think for about 250 miles—is a USFW National Refuge.

                  I used to have a cache on an island in the Mississippi River but had to remove it after the rule came out about no caches in the wildlife refuge. 😥 More about the rule is in this forum topic:
