Ok I’m a newb and I’m thinking about heading to the Happy Hollow event this weekend. Never been to a Geocaching event so…..here’s my question.

When people are doing all these TB and Geocoin drops before the event does that mean they are going into Caches there or are they bringing them to just trade or whats the procedure. I have a couple that I would bring. I have one that is supposed to passed around at events and the other according to the tag which fell off and I lost said it should be handed to someone in person not in a cache. I also don’t want to prelog them as I am unsure if I can attend or not. Is that cool? Any answers are greatly appreciated.

      Hi, Welcome to the addiction!

In our experience, some of the coins and bugs logged are being logged to be passed along, others just to be discovered. Once you get there, there will probably be spaces for the trade ones and another spot for the ones just to be discovered. You don’t have to log anything in; folks can simply get the tracking numbers, then come back to gc.com, log in the number and pick up or discover or whatever.

      Have fun! Hope this helps.

      Here’s what you do….

You can log the travel bugs into the event. You can do this by bringing up the cache page, select “Post A Log”, then select “Leave Note”. Type a little note, something like “Bug Drop”, then at the bottom of the screen will be another drop-down box with the various bugs.

If you go to the event, then you can hand off the bugs to another geocacher in person. Then, they can grab the bugs out of the event.

If you don’t make it to the event, then you can simply grab the bugs back out of the event using the tracking numbers on them.

      It’s that simple.

Sounds good thanks for the advice.

It would be a good idea to make an other tag to place in the coin flip with the coin that is to be given to an other cacher and not placed into a cache. Sometimes there are several TBs that get swapped at these events and the person you gave the coin to may not remember which one is not supposed to go into a cache.
