There were statements made about getting a new EC placed at Lapham Peak…I was wondering if that was still in the works? With the picnic upcoming it would be cool if that could be placed prior to that date. For the life of me I cannot recall who was working on this….I’d be willing to help out in the research and listing if needed.

Hmmmm dunno!! I know I THOUGHT about putting one up there….XC skied past one spot last winter.

I believe Jennifer Mode (Lightningbugs_Mum) is working on an Earthcache placement there as part of those being put out for the IATCC – Ice Age Trail Cold Cache Earthcache series. I know she is trying to get permission from the park manager to put something out along the Ice Age Trail section that goes through Lapham. Unfortunately we are finding that the manager is difficult to get a hold of.

Yeah, I have the coords for a very cool hidden kettle pond right off the trail, but I can’t get any response permission-wise (phone message or email). So I think I’m going to write a letter as my next attempt.

Unless I get a “No”, it will be set up in plenty of time for the picnic.

Lb7 – if you have any original ideas for a write up, I’d be glad to hear them.

You are trying to get a hold of Ed Muzik right?

    Property Manager Ed Muzik
    Park Office 262-646-3025
    Email [email protected]
    Address W329N846 Hwy. C
    Delafield, WI 53018

I had no trouble with contacting him. I think I emailed him all the research I had done (about 90% complete draft copy of the cache page), and then he got back to me…but I like to live on the edge and go ahead and do the work before I get the permission…what do I have to lose…a little time?

If you want to PM me what you have so far I’d be glad to take a look and offer whatever help I can.

    Yes, Ed.

    Maybe he doesn’t like girls.

Well, my multiple attempts (4 emails, 2 phone messages, mailing of geocache placement notification form with explanatory cover letter and cache write-up) to get permission from either Ed or Paul Sandgren over the last few months have gone completely ignored, so the new EarthCache won’t be published before the picnic. Sorry, but I’ll keep trying.

I was starting to get really frustrated about this until I thought about it and realized that this spot wouldn’t really be best served by having 200 people traipsing through it in a single day anyway. Not that it’s an overly sensitive area, but it is hidden off trail down a rather steep slope – I’d be afraid of massive erosion.

    Jen,

If it is part of the ice age trail, maybe the people Renee is working with can help out with that, even though it is in the park. I know it won’t help with getting it up and running before the Picnic, but maybe a thought.

It would indeed be an Ice Age Trail cache. The feature is even indicated on the Ice Age trail map.

Yeah, maybe the nice IAT Foundation lady should be my next contact.

Yay! I finally heard back from Paul Sondgren who will approve this for me once I get him the paperwork, plus has already given an OK for another earthcache farther south in Kettle Moraine. Look for both of them soon!

Sweet!…perhaps I will plan an EC day and hit those two as well as the two I haven’t gotten around to Southeast of Whitewater.

The other one is fairly close to AuntieNae’s Lone Tree Bluff earthcache (it would use the same parking) and just as onerous to get to. 😀

He he he – anyone who has done Hairway to Stephen will know this area well.

OK – all the paperwork is in the mail! Now it’s just a matter of getting them submitted.
