We’d hoped to join the fun in New Auburn today, but starting late on Wednesday, and getting worse by yesterday, it seems Trekkin’ has contracted lyme again. Waiting until Monday so he can see a real doctor this time and get treated right away, instead of suffering two weeks like last year before treatment.
He’s a geocacher, and we all know the OCD tendencies this hobby pulls out. You cannot be-LIEVE how carefully he checks himself after every outing. I do not want to be condemned to a summer of urban caching. Sorry for those who enjoy those, but I’ll find a new game in the woods rather than do that! Darn ticks!
08/02/2008 at 5:09 pm #1894128That reall sucks. I hope evrything works out ok, and he’s not down for long.
08/02/2008 at 8:42 pm #1894129Instead of our usual peak for Lyme and ehrlichia/anaplasma cases occuring like it usually does in June and early to mid-July, I saw only a few cases in June but things have been quite busy the past week. I know I was out of town for almost two weeks recently, but I suspect the late spring pushed back the usual time to get infected.
Get treated and then get back on the trails soon. At least around here, the tick populations seem to have plummeted as they usually do in August.

08/03/2008 at 4:20 am #1894134Sorry to hear it. One of us got one earlier this year but it was a wood tick and not a deer tick. That was bad enough, cant and dont want imagine what lyme would be like
08/04/2008 at 1:29 pm #1894135I’ve still been lucky. Got tested a week ago but came back negative. You’ll be right back at it post-haste.
08/04/2008 at 1:59 pm #1894136Sorry to hear that Trekkin’ is sick again.
08/04/2008 at 2:19 pm #1894137We’re trying to figure out what it is about his body chemistry that draws these buggers! I go through the same terrain, pull ticks and have not been affected thus far. He sees the doctor later today. Thanks for the well wishes.
08/04/2008 at 4:26 pm #1894138I hope all goes well and quick. I get nervous when bushwhackin’….but city hides are so unrewarding at times…
08/04/2008 at 6:34 pm #1894139Most of what we do is bushwhacking, which I suppose is part of the problem, but still doesn’t explain why I’m untouched and Trekkin’ is, well, “touched!”
He’s on meds now. Still a whiny-butt, but I’m sure by tomorrow he’ll start to have some energy return. If you’re old enough, remember the old Saturday Night Live skits with Jane Curtain and Gilda Radner? The “commericals’ for Puppy Uppers and Doggie Downers? Trekkin’s usual state is like to puppy who needs the downers, but right now he looks like the one who needs uppers!

08/05/2008 at 4:55 pm #1894141Sorry we missed you in New Auburn, but even more sorry that Lyme’s has struck you again. It sure does make you feel miserable until the antibiotics take hold. Hope he recovers quickly.
