The school where my wife teaches will be having a campout at the Ottowa Lake Campground September 19-21. We usually give a small geocaching demonstration at this annual event. Last year it was easy since the campout was at Bong and we have been there several times and were able to scout out most of the caches that we put on the list.

This year it will be a little more difficult since we have not been to this area.

The campers usually vary in age since it is a family activity. Does anyone have suggestions on which caches to hit near the campground?

    So far we have:
Trail to Eagle, Second Class, PAC
    Bare Escentuals

I think they might also be able to make a science lesson out of the earth caches:
    Hotel Spring
    Scuppernong Marl Pits
    IATCC Scuppernong Spring

We will try to hit several others on our own since everyone in our family including the dog loves to go hiking.

    Thanks,

First of all, where you are camping is the Southern Unit of the Kettle Moraine, not the North. That said, I’d probably skip Bare Escentuals. This cache is wet, nasty, not loggable, and apparently not being maintained by its owner. The earthcaches are all nice, but not really the “geocaching experience”. Also, just across highway 67 is the Scuppernong Trail system, which has a couple very nice multis along with some hikes to traditional caches.

Thanks for the correction. I don’t know the North Kettle from the South and I haven’t had the time to research it properly yet.

We will definitely hit the Scuppernong and see how far we make it up and down the IAT.
