I am trying to put a photo that I took on a cache page. The photo is on my desktop and I was able to post the image to the page, but it only appears in the gallery and I want it to show up automatically when the cache page is looked at. What do I do?
08/18/2008 at 3:37 am #1894565We’ve done some cache pages and have put photos on all of them. If you have the photo already uploaded to the page, it should have an address that you can insert into the cache description where you want it.
Basically, it’s:
The *** between the quotes is where you should put the http address of your photo. Click on the little image of the photo you put on the page, and when it comes up, the address will be at the top for you to cut and paste into your text
Make sure to click “using html” on your page. If you weren’t doing that already, then you will have to change the rest of your page into html (someone correct me on that if I am wrong).
The above is what we have used in the cache description at times. The “align” and “width” can be left off if you don’t care where or how big your photo is on the page, but it will help the page look tighter if you size the photo. Use a number larger or smaller to get the size you want, and if you align it, substitute left or center, whatever works for you.
Trial and error usually works, but keep asking for help in the forums–it’s where we got our start.

08/18/2008 at 10:58 am #1894567Can’t get that to work. I went to “edit listing” on the cache page. Under my description in the description box I put
I also clicked the HTML button before submitting.
All that did was mess up the spacing on my cache description and made it one big block of writing instead of the short paragraphs that I had originally used.
Since this picture I want to post on the cache page is on my desktop I don’t see any http address. When I click on the gallery image the picture just pops up without any address above it.
What now![/b]
08/18/2008 at 11:55 am #1894568You need to post your photo on the Internet, first.
I use the WGA photo album for mine.
After you have done this, use the instructions at the top of the Help forum.

You should also be able to upload the picture to the cache gallery itself, then use the image name/address assigned by geocaching in the upload process in your img src link in the cache description. It’s a bit backwards process; first you have to submit the cache (inactive), then upload to the gallery, then right click on the gallery image to find the name, then go back and change the description, then activate the cache. Unless I’m missing the easy way to do it. The advantage is you have all your stuff in one place; the disadvantage is that I believe gc modifies the image size on upload.
Otherwise, one of the various free sites out there like photobucket are good choices and provide some basic editing capabilities.

Or the WGA photo album!?
08/18/2008 at 2:35 pm #1894571I do the exact same as gotta run. The reason why this is “the best” in my eyes is that it does not rely on any other site to provide the content but gc.com itself. So many people use other photo posting sites but those sites can be down or worse BLOCKED by certain employers proxy/filters. The only thing I don’t like about this method is that the images I add to the cache get in the way of the real good cacher uploaded pictures when you view the gallery.
