Sooooo… September 2. The first day of school for most public schools in Wisconsin. Is everyone ready for it?
I know of teachers Trekkin’&Birdin’, Gram&Gramps, and student zoesbrother. And lots and lots of you are moms and dads. Turn the calendar, get back into a routine.
Discuss.
(Now, someone notify the mosquitoes that summer vacation is over!)
09/02/2008 at 2:32 am #1895332I don’t start tomorrow. Freshmen start tomorrow and all others start on the 3rd. But I don’t really start until next Monday. I attend school Wed and then after school jump on an airplane and head out to Virginia with the cross-country team. Yes I will be running in a cross-country invite out there and doing some caching at the same time.
09/02/2008 at 2:52 am #1895333Did you get that tough cache in Virginia on top of a hill or whatever that you were thinking about going for in July?
And don’t forget to do your make-up school work when you get back! 😉
09/02/2008 at 3:01 am #1895334No the dang busses couldn’t make it up to the turn around point this year. Some rediculus law prevented the camp from using regular school buses so this year the camp had to have handme down charter buses. As for the school work that will be coming to Virginia with me.
09/03/2008 at 5:49 pm #1895335First week of school:
All supplies laid out the night before by the door. Kids alarms ring at 5:55. Kids downstairs by 5:58, fully dressed. 6:00 breakfast eaten, teeth brushed. Final checks at 6:05. 30 minutes to the bus, but they want to wait outside and watch for it.
About one month into school:
Kids’ alarm rings at 5:55. Kids shut off alarm and go back to sleep. Mom wakes kids up at 6:00. Dad wakes kids up at 6:10. 6:15, son has made it out of bed but is building Lego sculptures. Daughter stumbles out of room and promptly bites off head of anyone in her path. 6:20, still nagging at kids to get ready and eat breakfast. 6:25 “kitchen is closed” is announced and kids howl. 6:30, “Where is my lunch? Where is my snack? Where are the forms I need signed so I can go on my field trip today? I forgot to do my homework.” 6:32, “Hurry up, we can see the bus coming down the road!!!” 6:35, kids sprinting down the driveway frantically flagging down bus that has just flown by.
On the Left Side of the Road...09/03/2008 at 6:01 pm #1895336… dropping things out of their backpacks, forgetting their milk money, leaving the computer crashed and someone let the dog (substitute cat if you are a cat person) out the back door and we can’t find him anywhere.
There, just thought I would tack on a few more things to make it more realistic.
09/03/2008 at 8:59 pm #1895337Mr. TE went back to school too…. I sub and actually got called in for half a day tomorrow… but have something else going on so can’t go in.
Sounds like the “gotta run” kids have the parents well trained… and take their name seriously.
TE09/03/2008 at 9:38 pm #1895338Oh, I am so excited….NOT! We have to be on our best behavior, including dressing professionally, because the Governor is coming to school for “photo ops” tomorrow. His office called it something else, but that’s what it is.
His photo ops seem to be converging on special ed, too. Like I said, I am SO not happy! I don’t even HAVE nice professional clothes anymore. He might get the flaky storyteller look instead, that’s my best stuff!
Just what an elementary school with a high quota of special ed kids needs the third day of school. Sigh!
Course, the sandlanders can bask in all this now. We aren’t too far behind you!
09/04/2008 at 7:59 pm #1895339My oldest is at his first day of school today, K-4. The house is feeling very empty while his little brother is napping this afternoon. I just lost my extra set of eyes for finding those close to the ground caches! I guess I’ll have to bring the little guy up to speed. 😉
09/07/2008 at 2:20 am #1895340The first week is over. How did it go?
We ragged on the neighbor kids on the first morning (10, 11, &13–perfect for a retired middle school teacher!–I was a bit nicer to them). Now they have homework!!!!!! 😈
09/10/2008 at 7:34 pm #1895341Thankfully the first week was short, there were a lot of tears shed. This week has been going much better, even though it seems to be taking longer to get ready in the morning!
09/10/2008 at 9:42 pm #1895342Second week of school and no tears shed here. In fact it has opened us up to Breakfast dates while the teachers get the kids. Sorry T&B but the parents need a break too. Just wish we had an entire summer.
