Hi all,
Now that I’m fully addicted to this “hobby” (see also: obsession that has me dreaming about caching at night, mapping out hundreds of caching routes that I know I’ll never get to, attemping crazy milestone caches or at least dreaming about attempting crazy milestone caches, buying items at the store just because I might need them while geocaching–most recent: head lamp, feverishly working on puzzle caches when I’m bored at work–don’t tell!, yelling obscenities at geochecker when my coords don’t match, silently thinking obscenities and beating myself up over every DNF, drooling over a FTF opportunity as soon as a notify email arrives, planning dates that almost always involve geocaching opportunities–good thing my date doesn’t mind, and now I’m sitting here wondering how many caches I could be grabbing in the time it’s taking to write this forum post)…..
Umm, as I was saying, now that I’m addicted, I get these crazy thoughts about completing lofty and unrealistic challenges, and I was trying to put together a bookmark list to get these Wisconsin Challenge Caches in one place.
Can you help me add to this list? I’ll take both major and minor challenge suggestions. Does Wisconsin have a Fizzy (Blackout) T/D Challenge or Alphabet Challenge? X many puzzles? X many virtuals? X many Earthcaches? etc etc etc
Here’s my little list of what I have so far:
Badger State Challenge (72 Counties) GC15WT3
Wisconsin DeLorme Challenge GCXPZR
BIIINNGGOO!! (T/D Challenge) GC14B96
EarthCache Tic-Tac-Toe GC1A1Q8
It’s All in the Numbers Puzzle Challenge GC1CF1P
Thanks!!
09/23/2008 at 11:52 pm #1896340I have considered, at one time or another, a county challenge, where you have to find a cache in each county starting with the same letter as the county.
Or, find a cache in each county seat?
09/24/2008 at 12:12 am #1896341Wow, that would be a tough challenge.
How about an ongoing Consecutive Day Challenge where the FTF only has to have cached for 1 day, the STF 2 consecutive days leading up to the challenge cache, 3rd to find 3 days, etc etc etc. By the time you get up to the 50th or 100th person to find the cache, they would have had to cached A LOT of consecutive days!! Ha. Evil.
But any other existing Wisconsin challenges that I should know about for my Booklist List?
09/24/2008 at 12:21 am #1896342The nearest black out challenge is in Minnesota, but the finds can be anywhere. Plus there are challenges like Zuma’s Northwoods 12 Pack and Trekin & Birdin’s I hope youre hungry challenges which really are chllenges based on favorite chaches of that cacher.
Being somewhat addicted to the challenge caches it would be nice to see a listing of all plus maybe get a discussion of going of challenges that we have seen in other areas that we could get done here. I have seen Centential caches which a person has to have 100 puzzles, or 100 multis, etc, I have seen a challenge where you have to get a cache placed by a cache owner whose first letter of their caching name represents each leter of the alphabet (ie Zuma=Z)
09/24/2008 at 12:45 am #1896343Here’s my updated booklist so far…
http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=29f62db7-1e3b-4aca-8231-bbbce4b5e47009/24/2008 at 12:54 am #1896344I’m actually very excited about these lists; I plan to get working on the total blackout….I find myself due for a new goal attempt….I’m in another slump, I have not found a cache yet this month 🙁 It seems my OCD has taken another path.
09/24/2008 at 1:08 am #1896345How ’bout I dip my cat’s paws in ink (he’ll get over it)(on second thought, make it gravy so he can at least enjoy licking it off) and have him walk around on a map of the state. To complete the challenge you have to find one cache located in each paw print (figure about 60 total). No micros because you have to put a wind-up mouse in each cache you find for it to count.
I know, this isn’t an existing challenge, but it seems to make as much sense as most of the others, and my cat likes gravy. 😛
09/24/2008 at 2:48 am #1896346Thraxman, I like your response. All be it a little silly, but then again a lot of these challenges are somewhat a little silly also (I don’t consider county challenges, Delorme or blackout silly).
But the fact is many of us are challenge oriented, to us it is what keeps the game interesting. My point is there is no reason we cant steal (borrow) ideas from other areas and incorporate them here.
My suggestion is if you see another challenge that looks interesting, even if it not in Wisconsin, post the GC here and maybe somebody will like the idea and run with it.
I myself have looked at other states challenges because I think that they offer us ideas09/24/2008 at 4:21 am #1896347Wisconsin will have its own Blackout Challenge in the near future. I’m just sayin’. Is all. 😉
09/24/2008 at 12:38 pm #1896348I heard of the “Bakers Dozen” challenge in MI.
Day one you only do one cache.
Day two you do two.
All the way to 13.. only getting the number for that day.Sounded intersting just won’t work in our area for us. Our 50 remains empty 😥

TEWell, you can always move to Appleton!
(I finally got my 50 under 400 yesterday, for the first time in over a year).
09/24/2008 at 12:46 pm #1896350I know you asked for WI challenges but posting these might encourage someone to create these challenges here…
A challenge which is dear to my heart is GC1D56M “A Century of Earthcaches” in North Carolina.
…and the same thing in Utah GC18W7C “Challenge of the Century: Earthcaches .”
…and in CA, GC1E8E1 “California Challenge of a Century: Earthcache.”
One in MN combining ECs and Virtuals is GC1F2JP “Century Challenges – Virtual/Earthcache.”
…and another of those in Indiana, GC1A8GQ “Challenge of the Century: Virtual and Earthcaches.”
09/24/2008 at 1:32 pm #1896351For those looking for challenge ideas, you might want to look at the bookmark list of the 35 challenges that KB has out in MN. Here is the link:

One word of warning: Some of these ideas are incredibly lame, but there are some pretty cool ideas mixed in with the lame ones, so if you are gonna copy an idea for a challenge, you might want to be selective.
Dont worry about copying his ideas too much cuz in most cases, he has copied these challenges from other states. For example, he copied the 12 pack idea from my challenge cache, even using the same art work. (I cant complain though. cuz I copied it from a bobcat idea, and bobcat in turn borrowed it from elsewhere too.)

09/24/2008 at 3:29 pm #1896352What about a nice 5 across challenge?:
I prefer the challenges to be simple and really hard to complete…though ones like this are more attainable to the populous (though that is not necessarily a good thing as it diminishes the grandeur of other extreme challenges).09/24/2008 at 3:54 pm #1896353oooh, I like that one.
