Quick question for some visitors this weekend…

Are pets (dogs on leashes) allowed on the state trails, like the Elroy Sparta Trail? This would be for walking.

      Thanks.

I think pets are okay on this trail.

      Here’s some info: pets

Checked that out, too, but couldn’t find the info I wanted. Thought maybe some of you have had experiences, pro or con.

My brother-in-law likes to hike, and we thought the trails would be nice if he wanted distance instead of terrain challenge. Didn’t know how the trail rules varied from the state parks.

I almost always cache with Jessica, my geodog and recently with Robin’s dog Sally. I have never ran into any problems with having them along. As far as the Elroy Sparta trail goes, I have been on a number of stretchs of it, and see few people, and dogs are not a problem.

Dogs are more of an issue in urban areas. I see more and more community parks with “No Pets” signs and the dogs either sit it out in the car, or I bypass the cache entirely. And of course at WSQ caches dogs in the cemetery seems like more taste, even in rural areas, so the dogs get to take a break on those ones too.

As far as the DNR lands go, leashed dogs are allowed almost everywhere. Exceptions are most nature trails (I’m not talking about hiking trails here) and nesting areas for certain waterfowl habitats.

Thanks everyone. They went to Mirror Lake, but were grateful for all the information. Future hikes are planned for future visits.
