We have been wondering if most people figure out what caches they want to go after by using goals as a tool to decide? We are also wondering it that is more for people in cache rich areas to help them narrow down the field? What goals have you achieved? What ones are you working on?
11/03/2008 at 2:20 am #1897451Will answer my own poll first. The only goals we have made are to “Enjoy the Journey” and get at least one cache every calendar month. We have been successful at both.
We have not finished any number/challenge goal yet. We have not completed a Delorme or County challenge nor any T/D ones, not an ABC or Baker’s Dozen. It could be because of the area we live in. There are just not the choices to be made. We have kept out 50 mile radius pretty much empty for a while but that was not a goal just the way it works in the caching world up here.

11/03/2008 at 2:29 am #1897452My goal is to get rid of all those annoying Blue Question marks that surround the Valley. I’ve got a ton of them off the list but many more to go.
11/03/2008 at 2:39 am #1897453I started caching in the middle of June of ’06. During the following winter/spring, I realized that I could average one cache/day. I just kind of stuck with that goal. I didn’t make it last year, but I have plenty of time yet to get caught up.
Whenever I do any traveling around the state, I try to find caches to help me earn the DeLorme Challenge and to find at least one in each county. If I am near a state line, I will also try to find one in the next state. I am planning on going to Europe in a year and a half, and will try to hit at least one in each country I visit. That will be a tough one though as it is an education tour and there is very little free time. There can’t be too many that have cached all of the continents. I wouldn’t mind trying for that, but it would be impossible for me.
11/03/2008 at 2:53 am #1897454I was really driven to reach 1000 finds and near the end didn’t always have as much fun as we used too. Since reaching that goal we’ve really slowed down. Last month we only found only 16 after averaging 60 per month during the last year. The past few weeks we’ve been picking scenic places to go and enjoying the total experience instead of just the finds. Yesterday we took our 11 year old grandaughter along who really enjoys geocaching and is as good at it as most of the adults. We all had a great time going 9 for 9 on a great fall day. I do have one goal that I am going for now and that is my 100th hide. I’m at 75 now and it will probably take almost a year to reach it. I’m concentrating more now on interesting and fun cache hides and neat places to visit.
11/03/2008 at 2:54 am #1897455Why isn’t there a choice of “NO” for the poll? For us, the “goal” is to have fun, enjoy nature, and find interesting caches.
11/03/2008 at 2:56 am #1897456Should have had a selection for “No, I don’t use goals at all.” I would’ve voted for that one.
I have a *very* relaxed approach to geocaching. I go out when I feel like it, I don’t go out when I don’t. Close to home is always a bit more inspiring than far away.
11/03/2008 at 3:06 am #1897457Same as the previous two here. If there’s a goal, it’s to go out on a nice day, even if there’s stuff that needs doing at home. Guess what we’ll choose tomorrow!

I would agree with this as well. I just want to have fun and maybe see an interesting place. If it involves water, all the better. I guess my goal would be… Hvae fun and hopefully find the cache. 😀

Same here. Cuz for me, it’s not or ever will be about the numbers. I been caching now since July of 06′. And as of right now I’m at 191 or so.
I do have all but 1 cache left to find within 20 miles from home. The one cache is less than 5 miles away, but for whatever, I have been leaving it for a rainy day I guess.11/03/2008 at 8:17 am #1897460One of my goals is to reach Alaska for my final state to have geocached in. I’m also working on another goal of attending a geocaching event in each of the 50 states which obviously will take many years to achieve. I don’t set numbers goals for myself, If I have a chance to get out and do some caching I do what is fun and skip the rest.

11/03/2008 at 12:09 pm #1897462I did have a “never” but it must have gone into cyber space I don’t think I can add it.
Hey Jeremy are you reading this? Can I add it? Can your?
TE11/03/2008 at 4:06 pm #1897463When we first started caching, and I think most go through this, we were very goal oriented. Now it’s different. I’m not sure where I am in my stats for any catagory, other than I know we have over 600 finds, but less than 700. And I have between 60 and 70 hides. The numbers just don’t seem to matter anymore, and I’m glad of that.
11/04/2008 at 3:11 am #1897464My only real goals are to have fun, see new places, and meet interesting people.
