The WGA Board is currently considering a winter event to be held after Christmas, possibly to coincide with the end of the Board elections in February. Since this would be the first time the WGA has hosted a winter event, we are looking for ideas. Should it be a simple meet and greet event? Maybe include classes and seminars? Something with a dinner or a pot luck meal? Do you want a “town hall” style membership meeting? A weekend long retreat with the option to stay in bunkhouses or a hotel?
So please post what your idea of a “perfect” winter event would be. Also, let’s stay on topic folks…

11/04/2008 at 2:02 am #1897501An indoor winter getaway like at one of the Dells big convention centers/hotels would be a blast! You could probably get a block of rooms for cheaper than the standard price. A great FAMILY getaway. Maybe have a treasure hunt sort of activity inside for families as well. 😀
11/04/2008 at 4:13 am #1897502How about renting a bunch of cabins at a YMCA camp? All the benefits of the camp and it’s equipment (skis, sleds, skates, saunas), cheap lodging, and something that is definitely family oriented. Plus plenty of outdoors for those temp cache finding fixes if need be.
11/04/2008 at 4:23 am #1897503AstroD-Team knows how to host a winter campout event. My family had a ball staying in a cabin with other geocachers (Marc sure knows how to keep the cabin fire burning all night long) for a weekend. The camp provided ice-skating, cross-country skiing, downhill tubing etc plus they (astroD-team) hid quality temp caches for us to find. I am happy to read that the WGA is looking into a winter gathering event. Tami

I looked up the event and it looks like it was a lot of fun. If we had been geocaching at the time we probably would have attended. We do most of our geocaching in the winter so we’re hoping for and event that we would want to attend. We probably wouldn’t drive more than 50 miles to a one day event, but a weekend outing would be of interest if the cost was reasonable.
11/04/2008 at 6:45 pm #1897505that camp idea sounds good.
i’d also like to see the seminars. gsak, paperless, puzzle, maccaching could be options.11/09/2008 at 6:18 pm #1897506Renting the cabins are relatively inexpensive. At our past events up there, we all went out for dinner but if the group is large enough, we could certainly take advantage the dining hall. Of course that would add to the cost of the weekend but the convenience of not having to leave the site may be worth it.
There is plenty of room and places to have the different “seminars” that Djwini suggested.
We would certainly be willing to help organize this if the group wanted to use the YMCA camp that we held our past events at. When are the February board elections?
