Who would be interested in attending an event held at a ski hill in central WI (Cascade Mtn., Granite Peak)? If a ski hill would all temp caches to be placed on the hill would you be interested? The temp caches would be hidden just off the groomed trail in the woods (I wouldn’t want the skiers to hike far). Maybe on the chairlift poles. If there is enough interest I will contact the ski hills to see if they would allow it.
Has this been done before? Do you know at which ski hill?12/05/2008 at 12:52 am #1898657Ahhhhh…I’ve heard of drive-by caching…and park n grab caching…”hold my pole while I sign this…”

Granite Peak is a awesome alpine dood, lots of apres ski not far either. But wait! You could also go parallel at the Sylvan Hills Tubing Area for us bros who aren’t so much into the Geschmozzle. They’ve got some gnar chutes there to keep you from poaching and smokin hot chocolate for the gapers!
There are also 3 or 4 good permanent caches within walking distance of the slides and couple more not far.

Is this any different than cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. How about kayaking or conoeing for a cache? “Hold my paddle while I sign this…” Similar concept.
12/05/2008 at 3:20 pm #1898661Or for that matter, hiking-caching! “Here, grab my stick while I sign this.”
Come to think of it, wasn’t “grab my stick” a travel bug????

Granite peak is a great place to ski. Your idea is brilliant. I wish I new how to ski so I could attend. If you would be so kind to take the party to the tubing hill I would attend. After a long day of tubing I like to enjoy hot chocolate with whip cream.Afterwards we could find 3 or 4 permanent caches nearby that you are sure to enjoy.

Man…I gotta cache over in Wisconsin more often…
12/05/2008 at 4:41 pm #1898664You will find that Wisconsinites don’t do a lot of solo caching. Especially in the Valley.

On the Left Side of the Road...12/05/2008 at 4:57 pm #1898667I LOVE the idea. I used to be an avid two planker myself until back issues had me put them to rest for awhile. Don’t forget to place some caches nearer to the slope for the knuckle-draggers – they have a much harder time getting around with the board strapped to their feet. If you did this, we might even consider getting the planks outa the spiderwebs and go for some easy ones! We are ski patrollers by the way, so I would recommend you also let the local patrol know why people are fidgeting around in the woods – we used to watch for suspicious activities including that kind of pole holding type of thing… – 😯 etc…

Thank you for yet another euphemism…
On the Left Side of the Road...12/05/2008 at 5:14 pm #1898669Uh, you know you don’t HAVE to have temporary geocaches to host an event, right? You can just have a downhill skiing outing for geocachers, which would certainly qualify for listing as long as you keep the info about the ski hill, lift tickets, rentals, etc. off the cache page. The key is to allow people to attend even if they don’t buy a lift ticket, so make the the “event” a meet and greet at the bar after skiing. If you are buying lift tickets at group discount, just state that a discount will be available for people posting “Will attend” logs before your deadline (and sending you the cash.)

No problem… doesn’t look like anybody would be interested. 🙁
Guess I have to go solo. Hide/find my own temp caches. lol
