Given Geowoodstock is in Tennessee this year I have a question for those who have done both Geowoodstock and MWGB. If you can only go to one of the two events this year which one and why?

I enjoyed the past 2 years of MWGB, but quite frankly it is an event that suffers from too few voluneers and if you are looking for a tightly organized event, you wont find it at MWGB. On the other hand, it is pretty much fun, laid back and a great time. I do plan on going again this year if able to, what with Zumette on the horizon.

01/07/2009 at 10:42 pm #1899709We have been at the last 3 MWGB On staff in ’08 and will be again in ’09 Never been to Woodstock yet (We will be attending this year) MWGB is a event that is designed to be laid back, not a tightly run schedule, plenty of time for coin trading, socializing, and AREA 51. It is a great time, and this year will be in a new location, OHIO. Registration for MWGB will be opening soon (or so the website says). So hope to see you all there.

01/08/2009 at 12:17 am #1899710We have done the last two Geowoodstocks and the last MWGB. Both are great events and since we have done both, we can’t choose. So we will be attending both again this year. The one thing that I have seen is that the MWGB is alot of local (midwesterners) attend. With Geowoodstock you get an international feel and you will meet alot more cachers from around the globe.
Like I said, we can’t choose so it is best to attend both. 😆 😀

I will add that it is not likely that MWGB will ever come to Wisconsin. I spoke to -Eleanor- and The Moop Along (two of the chief organizers of MWGB) last year at the event, and they see it as a Michigan, Ohio, Indiana event, as it historically has been.
What I want to know is, why do they phrase it the
Mid West geobash if they leave out Minnesota and Wisconsin. I think they should rename it the ohio-valley geobash.
Never been to either but If I had my choice I would attend the one in Tennessee as I’ve always wanted to visit Tennessee.

FYI Over the years, Geocaching friends of mine from (Tennesse, Florida, California, Germany etc) have hinted to me that Wisconsin would make a great place to host a future geowoodstock.
We just need a strong “backbone” to be able to carry it through….

01/09/2009 at 3:18 am #1899715Back in the 50’s and 60’s, the premiere cattle show in America was held in Waterloo, Iowa.
In the late 60’s, a group of showmen in Wisconsin decided that “America’s Dairyland” should have a cattle show.
The result was “World Dairy Expo”, the largest international show in the world, held in Madison. (Waterloo fizzled out)
With the right dreamers, and the right “backbones”, Wisconsin should be able to host the “World Geocaching Expo”, an international Event for the geocaching world!In all honesty, geocaching is still in it’s infancy.
But maybe now is the time to question how this dream can become a reality, and let the Wisconsin Geocaching Association put it’s name in the history books. The West Bend Cache Bash is proof that geocachers will come with the right marketing approach.
Why host an existing Event when we have the talent to host our own?

Cache Bash is 30 minutes from my home, its a no brainer. Trying to decide which of the other to do. Didnt include Cache Bash since I think it should be maniditory for Wisconsinites
01/11/2009 at 8:35 am #1899718I’ve been to the past two Geowoodstocks and last years MWGB and am planning on doing both again this year. The Geowoodstocks are way more organized and have lots more people in attendance. I’ve also attended the last three geocoinfests and there is a different crowd that follows each of the types of events. This year’s geocoinfest will be in Salt Lake City in October over Columbus day weekend.
