Hello all!
It’s been a little in coming, but it’s time to share a little about myself in lead-up to the elections…
I’m 36, married to Marie, the much better half, and referred to in logs at times as the Urban Legend 😉 for her ability to find the caches the rest of the party misses. We greeted our son Noah into the world in the spring and he has shared in our caching adventures from the day he came home from the hospital. And he’s sitting on Dad’s lap as I type this.
We began caching in the spring of 2005 for something we could learn as a couple, and it’s been a great run. Geocaching really does take you to the places worth seeing. There’s always that sense of wondering what’s around the next corner, and still discovering unearthed gems in your home territory. The old “I would never have known this were here if it weren’t for geocaching” schtick.
We’ve done a lot of caches and a lot of challenges, but for some reason I still get a little bashful when we meet another cacher on the trails and I have to confess just how much we do this. It’s a private journey that the whole world gets to read about.
I was surprised to get the mail from Jeremy informing me that I had been nominated for the board elections. I’ve been a very active player in the caching community and have tried to be an ambassador during my random encounters with muggles, and offered my opinion when I thought it mattered, but hadn’t thought about a board position until receiving this encouragement.
I feel that I can bring my enthusiasm, energy and love for the game to a tenure on the board, and my own way of looking at things as well. I’d like to see the WGA umbrella expanded a little to better cover some of those far-flung parts of the state, with smaller events more frequently held. We have two big, excellent events, but maybe Superior or Eagle River or Hayward or Mountain could see a WGA-branded event as well. These wouldn’t have to be ambitious affairs, just an opportunity for some of the locals to meet people from the area and beyond.
Thanks for the opportunity to serve!
