I’m sure that when you read the 1/12/09 question you realized that you maybe seeing the BOD Caniditites responses again.

In all fairness I am asking the the question that was first posted in response to my 1/12/09 question and the other question will follow. I am posting the question as asked:

AuntieNae asked: What were their personal contributions to Wisconsin Geocaching in 2008? (such as: events held, caches hidden, presentations given)

Caniditites (including AuntieNae) please respond to the asked question

    Thanks

What were their personal contributions to Wisconsin Geocaching in 2008? (such as: events held, caches hidden, presentations given)

We’ve placed 29 new caches this past year, some of which were EarthCaches and 5 of which were tribute caches (silver ammo cans).
Two of our new caches reflect our enjoyment of challenge caches, and we probably have “given” a few folks obsessions to pursue with those. 🙄

We held two social events last winter, which spawned three more. Because of our borderline location, those three “clones” went to
Minnesota, but drew Wisconsin cachers out to play.

I did a hands on presentation with a local Cub Scout troop, teaching them the basics about seeking a cache, as well as instruction in plant recognition. They know poison ivy now! Although not acting in any official capacity, we were pressed into service at the LaCrosse Fall Colors event to help newbies learn the ropes of inputting coordinates and searching for goodies. As an educator, I’d love to see the WGA develop some kind of curriculum that uses geocaching as a way to get kids out into nature and develops their passion for the natural world along the way.

I played the Lonely Cache game to varying degrees last year, and feel that anyone who did made contributions in helping to improve the caching experience in the state.

Guess that covers it. Great question, Renae!

In 2008, I have placed 12 caches, 9 close to home within 15 mile radius increasing the local cache population in that radius to 140. In total, I currently own 45 caches with >35 within that radius.

I set a short introductory multi-cache for the Frontier Adventure Race-Spring Challenge sponsored by Central Wisconsin Adventures whose BOD I also sit on, and my “Keep Me Posted – Siku Camp” cache was a cache I had published in conjunction with a martial arts seminar that I participated in by introducing 25 people to geocaching. The FARSC multi also introduced another 30 teens and adults to the experience.

Driven by the challenge of the Lonely Cache Game, I managed to secure a position on the leader board which held up through the year. The experiences both good and bad can be used to continue to help others in development of their caches.

I am also currently working with Lostby7 in development of an EarthCache in the Plainfield area. Hoping to get the logging reqs ironed out, but the snow is hindering that right now. It may need to “chill” ’til spring.

The only regret was that I was not able to attend either WGA event in 2008.

Disclaimer : Always answering to a higher power.

    Lets see….

    Published 2493 caches

Archived 587 caches (many were never published)

Unarchived 37 caches by owner request

Started the Lonely Cache Game with lots of assistance from Jeremy and others

Attended many events, but no WGA events this year (injured during the campout, sickness in the family right before the picnic)

Maintained many caches with new bags, pens, etc. (I’m always amazed when I find a keyholder or film can with no plastic bag)

Attended one Geocaching for Beginners event and helped out some new folks

Met with park rangers many times (my normal operation is to stop in to each office whenever I visit, introduce myself, and make sure there are no “simmering problems” out there that need to be nipped in the bud. Fortunately, there was only one time when there actually was a problem.)

Reviewed around 100 earthcache placements to make sure they were not placed on NPS land, Fish and Wildlife Refuges, or State natural Areas without proper permission.

Placed one new cache only, but there are a couple others in the “almost ready” state.

    I think I need a nap…

By the yardstick of public service I will fall a bit shorter than my fellow candidates.

Cache placements have been slim, when we have had time I’ve preferred to seek caches rather than place them. Some people get far more from the hiding experience, some far more from the seeking. I fall into the latter category.

I have not held any events. I have discussed many times holding social events in the Central Wisconsin area, but never acted. I enjoy the company of my fellow cachers but am not necessarily a social butterfly.

I have not had contact with government entities. I will be happy to help out in that area, but others have the access to the right channels to get things moving. I’m certainly not incapable, I just haven’t had any reasons to pursue that direction.

In all honesty we could have done more than we did, and only part of that can be attributed to the birth of our son. Perhaps 2009 will provide better opportunities.

    😀

What were their personal contributions to Wisconsin Geocaching in 2008? (such as: events held, caches hidden, presentations given:

Placed 69 caches in 2008, bringing the total owned caches to 300. Also adopted 14 caches.

Found 2997 caches in 2008. (I just looked at that now, to answer this question, and if I had known, probably would have gone out on Dec 31 for 3 more.)
    ,
Attended and worked at both of the large WGA events.

Attended and sponsored, with BNB, the first regional WGA event in Chippewa County.

Attended non-WGA events in Hayward, Oscelo, West Bend, St Croix Falls, and Hudson.

Developed policy and the BOD motion allowing for WGA Regional events.

Developed the BOD motion that put to rest the issue of logging temps at WGA events.

Developed the motion that added an EarthCache section to the forums, and supported the later additions of LCG, Tech, Puzzles, and Benchmarking to the forums.

Developed the idea of the WGA sending out a quarterly electronic newsletter, and wrote the first one. (Jennifer has pulled together and written subsequent editions.)

Developed and submitted motions that the BOD subsequently approved calling for set, stable dates for our our annual events, the BOD meeting, the spring campout and the fall picnic.

Actively supported Dave’s great work in developing the Lonely Cache Game. Played the game off and on, and ended up coming in 4th for the year.

Developed the motion that called for all BOD meeting minutes and votes on motions to be public and available to all members.

Rode shotgun with Bec when we gave a presentation at CWES in Ameryst for about 60 DNR rangers, naturalists, and other staff. Bec did all the heavy lifting here, but I will include this anyway as it was a good time.

Responded as well as I could to member questions and suggestions on a wide range of topics in the forums.
