    Comes from Cache_Boppin-BunnieFuFu:

    My question is simple:

“So….WHY do you want to be part of the WGA BOD?”

Again all candatites (including DaFu) please respond.

Although I am not a candidate, I’m getting lost in the “question of the day(s)”. I would personally find it helpful if any questions, have the actual question in the subject line. Then I can look back at the question, and not try to remember what date a certain question was posted on.

From past experience, not all candidates will be able to answer questions on a daily basis. Many will take some time to think about their positions, and make thoughtful answers. It’s going to be hard to keep pace with a question of the day, if it’s purpose is solely for posting “any” question on a daily basis.

To answer my own question, being a current BOD member:

I wanted to hopefully make a difference. I wanted to bring in ideas that might seem far fetched, but when thought about, could possibly be put forth in some manner or another.

I wanted to have a bigger hand in the overall drive of the organization. I have worked for a variety of organizations and participated in sub-organizations that were so large, many of us never had a voice. The WGA is smaller to work with and truly takes in consideration the voices of its members. If a voice is NOT heard and they come to my, I do my very best to make sure they ARE heard and offer all information given to me from that/those voices.

We are all IN the 21st century, but some live in the past. Being conservative is something that is important….at times… but it also feels like the proverbial “Rainy Day” is something that wants to be adhered to. I always take heart a few of sayings “What goes around, comes around”, “You get what you pay for” and “It takes money to make money” Of course, the WGA IS a not-for- profit organization, but I feel that those of you who read those saying understand where I am coming from.

In my case, I look to serve as a way to give back to the sport. Like many of our numbers, geocaching gave me the motivation to get out of the house and out into the woods, prairies and marshes. Prior to finding the geocaching, I only rarely had reason to visit parks or otherwise get out and explore. The game opened up a whole new world to me that I was apparently just ignoring. It also was just the right activity to share with my wife, instead of us often going our separate ways on the weekends. I feel like I’ve gotten so much from the game that I should give back when the opportunity presents itself.

For me, it’s a matter of wanting to give back to a sport that has provided us with a lot of enjoyment. We’ve come to count many who are part of the WGA as friends, and friends like to help friends. I think I may have something to offer the organization as well. My time serving on the storytelling board has given me insight into a variety of issues, some of which are very similar to those facing the WGA.

I agree with the others that giving back to the organization is a high priority. I see serving as a way of life in everything one does. It’s easy to say that someone else will do everything and then complain when it doesn’t turn out quite like I would like it to have turned out. Being a part of the decision making process would allow the ideas to be kicked around a bit and would help to bring different views to come to light.

Often times, we (geocachers) use “stealth” to help protect the cache placements from being discovered by non-players. Some may think that geocaching is a “secret society” but again, education is key to bring geocaching to others as an activity for everyone not just the lucky ones who stumble onto the websites or have friends who do it. Of course there will be those who will steal/damage/destroy the work of others but to make the effort to build a strong awareness of the sport would be one thing that can be done to give back to the WGA and its membership.

Disclaimer : Always answering to a higher power.

Like the others, I would of course like to serve because I feel I can give something back to the organization that has given me so much over the last couple years. I visit the site nearly daily, whether to read the forums, the recent logs or keep up on the news of the moment.

It’s also important to realize that anyone who serves, myself included, will support the agendas that they feel are important, and I believe some of the ideas I have will be helpful to the future state of geocaching in Wisconsin.

I will begin by saying that I want to give back to a community that has given much to me. I feel I have another perspective to bring to the Board when considering different items on the agenda. I am an older cacher with physical limitations that affect the way I look at events and caches. I will well represent those cachers in the same situation, as I believe they have been somewhat invisible when planning events in the past.

I know that I will work to encourage new cachers to join our organization and be active members. I have the energy, ideas and momentum to start things and keep them moving at a comfortable pace.

I would like to be part of the WGA BOD because I too, would like to give back to Wisconsin Geocaching.

I can bring to the BOD 1) the unique perspective of being both a geocacher and parks staff, 2) experience in preparing and conducting geocaching workshops and 3) experience in planning and conducting events that have drawn 200-250 people.

“So….WHY do you want to be part of the WGA BOD?”

    1. I really, really enjoy geocaching and all the great friends that I have made playing the game. Being on the board is fun for me, and a way for me to enjoy the game even more.

    2. I feel that we accomplished a lot of the goals that I had for the association last year, but that there are still several things that I would like to see us do, that I still want to accomplish.
