Lostby7 finally took enough time off from writing everyone elses Earth Caches to finally get out and hit this milestone. And of course it was an Earth Cache. What would Earth Caching in Wisconsin be without Gary. Everyone give him a big congratulations for his milestone and contributions.

It was IATCC – Lapham Peak Kettle Pond.
The funny thing is that I claimed it as my 2,000th find and about three hours later I was back to 1,999 finds. I was on the receiving end of my very first deleted “found it” log that night. It seems that after the Waukesha event this past winter (and days after as well) I and several other cachers went to find a geocache, got to ground zero, found the container, signed the logbook and then two months later we all had our finds deleted and were chastised on the cache page for messing with a kids fort at ground zero; it seems that the container we all found was not the geocache but something belonging to the kids who inhabit the tree house…I appealed the deletion with the cache owner but they stated I was free to come back and re-find the actual cache. I’m sorry but there was a container with a logbook I signed it and went on my way…this certainly was not a deliberate act on my part or any of the other finders to deceive or claim a false find. Having the found it logs deleted was a crock. I’m not going to mention the party involved but suffice it to say I’m a but miffed about the situation…..it’s just one more reason why numbers really shouldn’t matter.
What’s important is that ya’ll set caches out for me to find and that I occasionally get to run into you on the trail and at events. Thanks for helping me have so much fun.

Big congratulations for your milestone and your contributions!
Having had the good fortune to find many of LB7’s hides, including regulars, puzzles, and EarthCaches (the most recent in our own caching backyard), we are certainly grateful for all that he has done for geocaching. We salute you, Gary!
03/25/2009 at 2:34 am #1904401Congrats on the 2K milestone LB7. Way to go, even though numbers are, as you say, a “crock.” Yet, we like em.
I was pretty amused by your log deletion story. I had something kinda similiar happen a couple of weeks ago. THB, KSpud and I found a cache in MN. When we got there we found a fake stump, with a hinge, and inside was a sheet of paper. So KSpud signed it and we figured we had a find and off to the next.
When I logged it, the owner emailed me that the stump was just a decoy, and the real cache was a pill bottle underneath the stump…….Duh…..I deleted the found it log myself, but it was still kinda weird, as it sure looked like a cache to me.

03/25/2009 at 7:35 am #1904402Congrats on the 2K! The deletion doesn’t change the spirit of the milestone. I think most cache owners would cut some slack in that kind of a situation though. Heck, I’ve had some FTFs up here with caches that didn’t even have a log yet, and even looked for a cache a few times before the owner even placed it, but with some of the containers we see around here I’d sign anything anyway. A legitimate dummy, which I have seen plenty of times, should say it’s a dummy in the container. Congrats again on the great milestone!
03/26/2009 at 1:24 am #1904403Congrats LB7! And you get to hit 2K twice!
03/26/2009 at 1:36 am #1904404Congrats LB7, and thanks for your help with our Earthcaches.
Hey, why don’t you go and post a find to GC18F5H a day or so before your EarthCache find? Then your stats will line up–and plus it would be appropriate to claim a find on this particular archived cache (of ours) since it was a pretty “lame” deletion…
On the Left Side of the Road...03/26/2009 at 1:46 am #1904405Great cache….I actually was able to backdate another cache to make things work out and keep the EC as my 2,000th.
03/26/2009 at 1:54 am #1904406Congrats LB7. It was fun going back and forth with you for 1 measly EC! We’ll be watching for 3K soon! 😀
