The WGA is looking for individuals to help place temporary, permanent, and night caches for the upcoming Geo-Picnic at High Cliff State Park near Appleton.
We plan to place a limited number of temporary geocaches in the park for the event. The official temporary cache hiding day is May 3rd starting at 9am and will continue through the afternoon. The base of operations will be the open shelter next to the Pavilion shelter (at approximately N44 09.899 W88 17.158). We would appreciate the help of local geocachers in placing these caches. Bring your creative temporary cache ideas; if you have no ideas, the WGA has various standard and unique containers you can hide. If you are unable to attend that day but still want to help with temporary caches, there may be an opportunity to do so after the 3rd. Contact Campout Committee co-chairs Justin Korpal (K0rpl) or Peter Quella (Labrat_wr).
If you live in the Fox Valley area and wish to place new permanent caches that would be listed in the event materials and downloaded to participants, please contact the Campout Committee co-chairs. We are planning some new permanent caches in the park already, but could possibly use more. Additionally, nearby caches outside the park (within a 10 mile radius) would also be welcome.
On Friday night of campout weekend, we will be holding a night cache contest. Members will be allowed to place one or more night caches, and those hunting them will vote for their favorites. Prizes will be awarded to the caches garnering the most votes. Night cache locations can either be picked in advance (perhaps during the temp hiding day?) or Friday afternoon of the event. If you are interested in participating, contact Becky Waldmann (greyhounder).

05/03/2009 at 2:07 am #1906530See everyone who’s coming out to help tomorrow!!
05/03/2009 at 3:07 am #1906531😥 I want to come! But, my doc won’t let me drive yet. Well, I can’t exactly move to well either. But, darn that doctor!
05/03/2009 at 3:10 am #1906532I might come but we’ll have to see how I feel after racing tomorrow morning. If I do come it would be around noon.
05/04/2009 at 1:27 pm #1906533Thanks to the dozen or so folks who showed up yesterday at High Cliff for the cache hiding day. Instead of spending the day lazily enjoying the perfect weather finding other people’s caches, they worked hard placing temporary caches and scouting locations for permanent and night caches. You can look forward to caches from the following volunteers at the event:

jvechinskiLooks like we will have about 30 creative temporary caches and ~8 new permanent caches spread throughout the park, as well as some new permanent caches in the surrounding area. This should be more than enough to keep even the most hard core cachers busy all day Saturday. 🙂
