There is a lot of fun setting up caches as evidenced by Seldom/Seen’s caches as well as others. My question is what if you had to make a choice to only do one or the other. Which would you choose to do?

Foe me, it would be a tough choice but I may just be a hider. I get a lot of satisfaction from the positive comments about caches that I have placed. That keeps me going.

I chose find caches, since it is magic for my son when he finds the “treasure” and the look on his face and his excitement are true and genuine and one of the best things you can see as a parent.

I could live without finding caches I guess, because I’m outside hiking, walking, biking without caching all the time anyway. I don’t think I could give up the thrill of a good hide, or the fun of reading the posts.

I’m just glad this will never happen, because either would be a great loss.

I haven’t hidden any yet so I might be able to live with just finding.

I also have trouble coming up with the poetic descriptions and intricate puzzles.

I would be content to find caches. As long as they’re not all puzzles. If that happened, I’d quit.

Find ’em most likely. That’s the fun part. And, yeah it kinda of the ‘what comes first’ kind of thing…the cache find or the cache hide? It is fun to do the creative thing for hiding a cache and all.

We are really not into “the numbers” thing, as we only have twenty hides to regularly maintain and look after. Just could not imagine what it would be like to have a flock of caches greater than 100 or even 200 for that matter.

Or, try over 2,000 or more? YIKES! A ‘Johnny Appleseed’ cacher type that throws them out all over the place and then does zero maintenance.

I chose find caches because I wouldn’t know enought good areas to hide them in-caching has taken me to some great areas -even in my own back yard- that I didn’t know existed. Also I would have trouble keeping good maintenance on tons of caches. I thank each and everyone of you for all your hides and all your finds, this game wouldn’t be the same if so many great people didn’t participate.

Well, I have to say it is challenging to have that many out, but if I had to choose, everyone knows what side of the fence I’d be on.

I get some enjoyment out of “getting to” caches, especially the lonely challenging ones, but I lost interest in the actual opening and logging of caches years ago. That’s why I have slowed down considerably on the finding of caches. Take the Pathways series I just did. There just wasn’t much to remember or anything particularly redeeming about the placements or cache contents of the 3 caches in the series, save jumping the creek a few times. The final puzzle however, which is lonely, I probably will remember since it has presented a decent challenge and I am actually anxious about finding it tonight! Not many caches do that for me anymore.

It would be a toss up for me. It would be very hard to give up hiding caches. I get a lot of enjoyment out of the reactions and logs on my hides. I wouldn’t miss finding caches as much as the interesting places that they have taken me to. It seems that every geocacher who places hides has a secret spot that they have been willing to share with all of us. I never would have experienced that without looking for caches.

find them, just because of the places that it brings us to

Which one of your kids do you like better?

Both are fun and require different skills, one takes time to set up and maintain, one takes time to find and log. However, preferring placing caches over finding caches makes travel much easier. 😀 I like to use the creative side in thinking up caches and writing up cache pages. Now if I could just get around to turning all of my ideas into real caches…

the moments that a new cache i’ve worked on sits in the queue and thereafter are the most exciting for me…

I love the new places caching has taken me to…but I really love the planning that goes into placing new ones. I’ve been working on some placements that have some history behind them lately…interesting stuff. It’s hard to get the 5th grade teacher out of me 🙂

I chose find caches, for many of the reasons already said. Haven’t hidden any, like the places I get to go, thrill of the adventure, couldn’t do a lot of maintenance on hides… but I am grateful there are those who chose hide. Otherwise, what would I get to find?

            #1906865

Well, I used to be a bit more bashful about this, but I’m definitely a finder, not a hider. I have nothing but admiration for all the hiders who have brought so much pleasure to my life, but the spark that drives them burns less brightly in me. Always happy to get a nice log on my more appreciated caches, but I have more fun writing the logs on the ones I really loved.
