Ok, I’ll admit it. I really suck at picking out gifts for any occasion, so I am asking for your input/ideas for some Mothers’ day gifts. My mom is always happy to go for brunch or dinner, but to me that’s getting old and would like to do something different. I also need ideas for my wife. When I ask the kids what they want to get her, they said that she wants some new i-pod something or other. It only costs a few hundred dollars. Well, you can only imagine my response to that. And even though she is not my mother, she is the mother of my kids and she deserves something from me as well. Seems to me that most other people have no problem picking gifts for somebody that doesn’t break the bank and that the recipient almost always likes. I envy people like that. With that said, can I please get some ideas?

My kids like to make “mommy coupon’s” that are good for “One Free Laundry Day” or “One Free Supper”, etc. That way my wife can use them when she really needs a break.

My mom like to read. So I usually try to find something in hardcover she doesn’t have by her favorite author. Right now the Twilight series is HUGE with most readers – especially female readers. I always write something inside the front cover about how much she means to me and then sign and date it Mothers Day for that year. That way when she opens up the book later, she’ll always remember who gave it to her and why. 😆

Try shopping in the gift shop of a local museum. I find great stuff there for the women in my life.

    At my wife’s request….

    A lawn-chair chaise lounge.

I took one of them for a test drive a few weeks back at the Cabela’s in Rogers, Mn. SWEET!

FF, does your wife cache? If so, are you set up for paperless? If not, an I-pod may be the way to go as a multi-functinal gift. I think I got my Nano-I-pod at Wally World for like $130.

    This might work.

My wife is a Hawaii nut. She lived there when she was younger. A few years back, I found a few places in Hawaii, that would airmail a fresh hawaiian lei. WAYYYY better than your typical “flowers” for not much difference in price, and the place I ordered from wrapped them in local newspaper, so it was even extra fun to read!

Now I know this won’t work as well if you don’t have an island nut on your hands, but I also have sent them to my sister when she graduated college, and a professor friend when she retired, and they have always been a HUGE unique hit.

This a great idea! I asked my wife to marry me in a card when I sent her one of these-Protea Tropical Basket Arrangement They also dry very nice and make a nice decoration afterwards.

I used to do that for Christmas and her birthday and it would just tick her off like there’s no tomorrow. Geez, I would get lectured up one side and down the other. “Use your imagination,” she would say. Like I said above, when it comes to gifts I stink at it. I finally gave up and for B-day and Xmas I give her cash.

I wish my wife cached. She thinks that we are a big cult. LOL. Her words not mine. I like the lounge chair idea. I might have to take a little ride up to Richfield to check them out.

Keep the ideas coming. You all might just help me out come Christmas. Her birthday is in July, by the way.

    Thanks a lot everyone.

    Here’s my idea.

As soon as the kids are up and dressed, grab the keys, put them in the car, and tell mom “see you at bedtime.”

I bought one for my wife last year – it was called a “Gravity Chair”. It’s the same thing as listed above so it goes by a few different names. She LOVES it! You have to sit in it to understand why it is different than any other lawn chair.

I got it at Ace Hardware.
