O.K. Inquiring minds want to know. OR should I say curiosity killed the cat.

While looking over the earth caches in the state of Wisconsin. I found that their have been seven different caches that have been archived. I now asked my self as to why would you want to archive a good cache? The hard work is done.

I recently was one of the lucky ones to have adopted one of LB7s earth caches. So I ask, would it not be better to adopt them out, rather than
archive them? IMHO the better choice is adoption.

    Just curious, Benny7210

I would think adoption would be better than archiving them unless there is damage being done to the area…

I wonder if the influx of e-mails is the problem and to deal with it they archive instead of putting up for adoption. Once in a while I will respond to an earthcache answer submission, but I believe i put on one cache page that I would onnly respond back IF the answers were incorrect.

Do you have a list of archive ECs in WI?

The only one I know about is GC1023Q and I dont know why it was archived, but it was not a huge loss, as it was a poor EC. You had to stop on a 4 lane expressway to get the required info, that could have been seen on safer road cuts elsewhere.

    GC143BY
    GC1023Q

I do know there are a few more as well.

Here are three more. My list has a total of seven that have been archived.

    GC17978
    GC17CKT
    GC17975

    P.S.
I would be more than will to adopt any EC that someone wants to get rid of.
Please email me with the details….

Why doesn’t someone ask the archivist indeed.

I archived a whole slew of geocaches, including Earthcaches, simply because I was far less active in my geocaching participation.

Each cache hider seeks his or her own level of maintainable caches. When the activity of geocaching becomes a burden, it’s time to back off. I know that most cachers would rather see a cache archived rather than become poorly maintained.

In the case of an Earthcache, maintenance involves answering inquires about the cache. When I archived them, I had neither the time nor desire to read and answer all those emails every day.

I’ve contacted Bandits on GC17978, but would also be interested in there other two. I think this would be a great opportunity for our school as a classroom project. They can verify the logs, learn from the earth caches and also learn about geocaching.
