06/24/2009 at 12:00 am #1910036Seeing as West Bend will be so hospitable that weekend, you can probably pitch a tent on any given lawn. I plan on sleeping in my own bed, so you will have to let me know how that goes. If all is good, maybe I’ll try it next year.
06/24/2009 at 2:19 am #1910037I was trying to secure accommodations for myself tonight — no luck…

Well the free kind of course…..Anyone wanna split a camp site?
I’m serious about sleeping in the car….I did it the first night at Geobash and that seemed to work out OK. I live too close to really justify paying for accommodations but far enough that I don’t really want to drive 6 one hour trips to the area…I plan to be in the car going from cache to place for most of the weekend as it is.
06/25/2009 at 6:29 pm #1910040I have found a camping buddy! Thanks buddy… 😛
06/26/2009 at 11:43 am #1910041Hotdogs Off Trail are also looking for a camping buddy to share a site for Friday and Saturday nights at the Cache Bash. Camping fees at the private campgrounds are about $30-35/night.
06/26/2009 at 12:16 pm #1910042If anyone cares….Lake Lenwood Campground will be hosting myself and my camping buddy….
06/28/2009 at 1:48 am #1910043I haven’t decided yet if I’m driving down Friday night or early Saturday, but I have full wall – wall carpet in the box/cap of my truck and am considering sleeping in there. I haven’t slept in this new one yet, but have a few times in the old one. The biggest scary thing is worrying about where to go to the bathroom if necessary.
Can anyone suggest an area where I would not get busted for overnight parking that would not be brightly lit, loud, and in an ideal fantasy world have a usable bathroom not far away?
06/28/2009 at 4:02 am #1910044Not that I did this, but I know some cachers spend there nights sleeping in the parking lot at Wally World (aka WalMart)..however it maybe a bit bright given the lighting
06/28/2009 at 5:11 pm #1910045I’m not sure if there are any locations in West Bend that legally allow free overnight parking. I wonder if some of the state trails or parks do (since backpacking is sometimes allowed). I’ll look into it. The Wal-Mart doesn’t allow night parking (and they’re not open 24 hours). The Walgreens in town is open 24 hours and the restrooms are open to the public, but I wouldn’t advise sleeping in that lot. I work the night shift, so I know the police patrol the area at night.
06/28/2009 at 5:20 pm #1910046Looks like most Wal-Marts in Wisconsin are okay with overnight camping. I found this list of the ones who do NOT allow it:
WI
City State Store Number
Ashland WI 1672
Janesville WI 1305
Milwaukee WI 2828
Minocqua WI 2510
Sheboygan WI 1276, 3324However, it is recommended that you ask the store before parking for the night.

It is a dirty little secret of RV campers…here is a link to the complete list.
http://www.freecampgrounds.com/othercamps.html06/28/2009 at 5:36 pm #1910048I called Wal-Mart. The manager told me that they don’t personally care if people park overnight and he sees people doing it “all the time”; however, they do not own the lot and the lot has signs posted that read “no overnight parking.” The lot is owned by the city. He thinks that it might be a city ordinance and suggested I call the courthouse to check on it. I will call tomorrow (Monday) when the courthouse is open and let you all know what I find out.
