This is a question for the Oregon but may apply to other units.

When you send caches to the unit, you are basically sending a GPX file. Since the Garmin itself is not a file editor, you cannot change any individual cache from the unit. (i.e., delete it, change the coordinates, change the icon, whatever). The best you can do is set a new point with the same name, which you can then manipulate.

Apparently, you can choose to load geocaches as waypoints or POIs instead. Does anyone do this? What are the advantages and disadvantages if so?
