I tried looking looking at the bookmark lists on this site, but I didn’t see it, so I’ll post the question here.

I’m interested to know if there is a list of the oldest cache in each county in the state. I know GC2E9A is Marinette County’s oldest cache. That is my only find of a cache placed in 2001 thus far.

So I was thinking, not only do I want to complete one of the county challenges someday, I want to do it by visiting the oldest cache in each county.

If there is no such list, that’s ok. I’ll just run PQ’s and search for caches placed in 2001 and 2002 or so.

    Thanks in advance.

Well, I got inspired. Here is a bookmark I created with the oldest caches in each county. Since the challenge requires the caches to have a container, I left out virtual caches.

Only one cache on the list is disabled, but the cache is still findable. It’s no surprise that the biggest number of caches on the list were placed by lil’ Otter. Quite a few of the cachers are long gone, but just as many are still active and some are active on the WGA forums.

If someone finds an error, let me know and I’ll fix it.
    Good luck on the challenge!

Edited to add that I just realized that I probably should have included the county that each cach is in. I’ll add that, but not tonight….

I was wondering how long before someone would create the bookmark.

OK, now for a comment. I would have added the county name before the name of the cache, so you could tell which county was involved.

I own 3 of the oldest caches on the list. Very cool.

I remember doing a lot of those caches in the early days of geocaching.

    Thanks for making the list.

Decided to take a look at the list and see the oldest cache in my county…. well the one listed as oldest is actually one of the newest! (GC1QW6E)

Looks like the owner has listed the cache as being place in 2001, not 2009. I sent the cache owner a quick & friendly email so hopefully they will correct it.

Isn’t the only cache in Menominee County (WI) a virtual?

Hey? Where’s the thanks to me for giving Team Black Cat the inspiration for making that list? πŸ˜›

All kidding aside, much thanks to TBC for making that list. I should be able to get Oconto and Brown County this week and we’ll see what happens for the other 69 counties that I have to get yet πŸ˜‰

    Er…. um…
A couple of caches didn’t get “un-checked”. GC1DKB5 probably shouldn’t be on the list either which means I’m short a couple of counties…

Edit: I missed Crawford county which is another lil’ Otter cache. GC9150

Also missed Richland county. GC7C6B was hidden by Jeremy in 2002.

The owner changed the listed date after I emailed him, so now you’ll have to find the correct oldest cache for Green County.

Ah… I actually caught a few of those, but that one slipped by.
GC3740 has logs going back to 2002, so that one is a little more reasonable. πŸ˜•
