OK, you know it’s been coming ever since the stores swept the red, white, and blue off their shelves and replaced it with backpacks and notebooks: another school year is upon us. What are your thoughts, experiences, etc., as this “season” approaches?
Are you experiencing it as a student? A teacher or other employee? A parent or grandparent? Neighbors who taunt the kids across the street as they go off on the first day and, being retired teachers, we don’t have to? (Ooops. Did I say “we” there? 😉 )
I’ve got three students, two college and one entering middle school.
pretty exciting time of year as schedules get all mixed up again.One thought for all to consider: Nearly every community has a need for extra school supplies for those who have a hard time financially. When you are out there purchasing supplies, pick up a couple extra things and donate them to the cause. 😀

Yep. Just had “Stuff the Bus” pick-up in the area yesterday, but you can drop off donations for your local schools any time. Thanks for the reminder, Labrat.
Or if you personally know of a family that can’t afford the supplies, try “adopting” them. I’ve already sent two boxes full of supplies and backpacks to some kids in TN.
We’ve got three students here. TDSKid is entering 5th Grade, TDSGal is starting her 5th semester and I am proudly starting my first at age 38!
Let’s see qualify for most of those listed… 2 kids in college, grandson starting kindergarten, hubby in 5th grade for the 31st time, already called to sub for an afternoon next week… I usually take some night classes but that is not happening this semester…
Mixed feelings… not ready for fall, much less winter to come in.
TEMy son is heading off to middle school in a few days. If that isn’t enough transition, we are putting him in a new school district. So he will not be with his friends he’s been with the last several years. Jacob is looking forward to the first day of school despite not really knowing anyone. And I’m looking forward to getting involved at the school as well.
Our daughter’s family (opps5) lives 10 minutes away so we see them all summer. Becky is a teacher at the same school that all 3 kids attend. So now we begin our vacation of sorts away from the kids during the day, however we will miss our geo-buddies. We spent the day with 12 year old Emma last Sunday and toured a historic home and found 23 caches. We geo-camped with them this summer and spent a week at their lake cottage with them. I feel like I’m writing a report on what I did during my summer vacation.
I drive bus for special need grade schoolers. This will be my 3rd year driving & I LOVE it ! ! ! Makes me wish I started driving YEARS ago. Most of the children have been on my route since I started. Seeing I dont have children of my own it is kind of nice to see these special ones off to school & to see the excitement in what they have learned or made in classes. I am always sad to see vacations come round like Christmas & summer……i really do miss the kids. So starting Tuesday Sept 1st we will be singing umteen verses of “The wheels on the bus”…….I dont care how many times I hear it ….it doesnt get old to me. Especially when I see my bus aide & the students doing the motions with some of them……makes my day EVERYDAY. I have been told by some of the teachers at the schools where we drop the kids off at that it has been along time since they have seen a bus driver with a smile on her face all the time but they know I am enjoying my job.

Becky, ever think of teaching them 99 bottles of beer on the wall? lol
My son is starting 7th grade and my daughter is a freshman in high school. She wants to become an actress and just auditioned at First Stage. She is also taking advanced placement biology this year and actually had three classes already this week. We have to check into it but we just heard that she may be earning college credit for this class. I’m pretty excited for her. However, I learned not to tell her to keep her expectations real. Boy was that a big mistake.

If it is an AP class with an AP test at the end of the year then yes she will earn college credits as long as she passes the test.
My daughter will be starting 7th grade (and not looking forward to it).
My son will be starting 4th grade (and can’t wait!).My wife works as a substitute teacher and enjoys working with the kids.
I teach 4th year medical students from Madison. But because medical education generally continues year-round, back-to-school doesn’t really apply. The new academic year started nearly two months ago (try not to get sick at an academic hospital in July!). I have to make the 5 hour drive to Madison for my next faculty development seminar October 23rd.
