So one of my caches showed up on the list, I know its there, cause I just visited it. Can I get points for my own cache if I log my maintenance check on it, and does a maint visit prevent them from going on the list?
09/02/2009 at 2:05 am #1913408Thinks those are all “no”???

No.
and does a maint visit prevent them from going on the list?
No, but it prevents someone who has already found your cache from revisiting it and claiming revisit points.
The only way to prevent something from going on the list is to have it found after the cutoff period of the list. Well, or to have it disabled when the list is created.

Huh? It does? Why is that? If someone was to find a cache on the same day as a owner does maintence,,,,how do ya know? Or just the oppisite. You revisted before the owner, but the owner posts it as an owner Maint. before one can log it as a revist, but an owner cant get points for his own cache? I think something isn’t jiving there.
Cuz I have 5 or so caches that technically are not listed as mine but are under a diffrent user name I share with someone else. So I could claim them……..09/02/2009 at 2:31 am #1913412@TheBalks wrote:

Just go looking for some of the ones on the list near you (or wherever you want to travel), and even if you don’t find them, log the DNF and submit for points for that, too. And if you do find a Lonely Cache, more points, plus everyone gets to see that the cache is still there! And even if someone finds it before you in the two-month period, you can still claim your find for the LCG, as can other finders. Then it goes off the list for the next period.
Gotta run didn’t find any lonely caches all last year (I think), but he seems to have had a bit more success at the game in 2009. 😉 Never too late to start!

Owner maintenance has NO impact on how many times a cache can be found by a new finder.
However, owner maintenance does prevent a cache from being revisited by someone who has already found it. As far as the timing goes…dunno. Hasn’t been an issue for us because we haven’t done any revisits.
Owners can’t get points for anything involving their own lonely caches.
Someone else correct me if I’m wrong here…

Well that would be up to you, b/c you’re not the owner.
I don’t know what happened to the “rules and scoring” page b/c it’s not there right now….
On the Left Side of the Road...09/02/2009 at 3:17 am #1913415Just for the recored, I wouldn’t log those 5. But I am confused by the revist. If the owner does maintance, why can’t you log a revist? What if the Owner doesn’t even know about this game?

Because the purpose of a revisit is to check to see if everything is ok, which is the same thing an owner maintenance visit does. Same reason that you can’t have multiple people logging revisits on a cache during the same cycle.
Man, don’t ask me! Ask Deejay — he made the rules. Or sagasu, he’s the leader on the revisit board.
It’s all just for fun, no one I know takes it all too seriously even though we play hard.

Apologies to the rest of Team GR. Didn’t think everyone went on EVERY lonely cache run . . . 😉

I think in the first year of the LCG, there could be multiple “maintenance” visits by different cachers for LCG points. That was one of the rules changes for 2009. If the cache was deemed “good” by somebody, why should another get points for doing the same check? Finds, a different story.

LOL! Not trying to put you one the spot. Up this way, you lucky if you ever run into another cacher on the same day. I aint sayin’, I’m just sayin’. If 2 log on the same day,who gets the points? I guess that’s why Deejay gets paid the big buck to figure things like this out!
09/02/2009 at 3:59 am #1913420One way to “lay claim” to the revisit points would be to log your revisit in the log book, that way anyone coming after would know that the cache had been revisited already and they are to late!
Also, if two “teams” are caching together and revisit a cache that both have found before, both teams may claim the revisit. Seriously, revisits are not where the points are unless you revisit the 5/5s and rescue a handful of TBs 😀
Disclaimer : Always answering to a higher power.
