As a off shoot of Muther & Sun’s outling counties in mid state Illinois, I wonder if anyone has thought to outline their state?
Would take a fairly large number of caches getting together and ….. oooh, dare I say this … cooperating!?

11/29/2009 at 5:38 am #1917294I like your idea Marc.. Would these be .1 miles away from each other as well if possible?
11/29/2009 at 12:42 pm #1917295If you decide to do this I will do my part. I can get Western Walworth County.

Shhhhhhhhhhh not so loud……..or he might think of outlining every county as well as the whole state.

Did you not just go hunting around Milwaukee for 100 caches in a 10 x 10 grid? 😯

LOL……This is obviously a difference in viewpoint, and I am not sure the opposite views will ever come to a common agreement.
An analogy one might make is that many of us who place caches, place them carefully and with thought, the way a chef prepares a great dish, with consideration of spices, texture, and how pleasing it will be to the palate. Many cache placers, place caches to be enjoyed as a single dish, and dont expect people to rush thru them like in a contest of how many hot dogs one can stuff in one’s mouth in an hour.
The conflict in viewpoint arises because there are two distinct styles of caching. First, there is the type where one really is trying to get as many finds as possible, as if there was a reward or prize to be had for stuffing more hot dogs in your mouth than the other guy.
Second, there is the type of cacher who gets out and enjoys the great dish served up by the cache placer, enjoys the hide technique, the view and the walk to the location, and savors the moment.
Which is better? Well, that is a personal choice, we are all free to make for ourselves. Personally, I enjoy both types of caching, but do view them as distinctly different activities, so can offer a few thoughts on the subject, for what it is worth.
I do think that the history and tradition of geocaching is based on the idea that a cache should take you some place, and should show you something. Caches that I place are all in this vein, and I have yet to place a cache “just for the numbers.” Probably one reason so many of my cache hides end up on the LCG.
On the other hand, the game has evolved in a way that I dont think that Groundspeak forsaw, where the find count “matters.” If the find count matters, than park and logs are just the ticket. And a second type of cache placer has come in to fill the void, and placed caches that are easy to find, making it easy to rack up a bigger find count. Thank you Mutherandsun! Thank you to the team that put out the Battleship series! and thank you Marc for stepping in to fill a desire that many cachers have: easy to find caches to rack up numbers!
Now, I am guessing that most of us have a preference, one way or the other. Freedom is a great thing.
